cnn special correspondent jamie gangel broke the news tonight. joins us now. so who in the former president's family does the subpoena involve? >> so, anderson, according to multiple sources, the january 6th committee has subpoenaed and obtained phone records from two people very close to former-president trump. his son, eric trump. as well as kimberly guilfoyle who is engaged to his other son, donald trump jr. and as you pointed out, this appears to be the first time the committee has issued a subpoena targeting one of the trump children. it really underscores just how aggressive the committee is willing to be in its investigation. we reached out. eric trump declined to comment on the subpoena of his call records but a source familiar with his thinking tells me, quote, he's not losing sleep over it. we also reached out to an attorney for kimberly guilfoyle who told us the subpoena is, quote, of no consequence to her because she has absolutely nothing to hide or to be concerned about. for the record, anderson, the committee declined to comment on the subpoenas

let's bring in cnn's jamie gangel.ays and what the committee is asking mr. hannity for. >> they're asking him for voluntary cooperation, jake, and it's based on the fact that they say they have a series of texts, multiple texts from him to former chief of staff mark meadows, as well as other members of the white house staff. let me just read to you from the top of the letter. they say to hannity that it indicates that he had, quote, advanced knowledge regarding president trump's and his legal team's planning for january 6th. it goes on to say that it appears hannity was, quote, expressing concerns and providing advice to the president and certain white house staff regarding the planning. it goes on to say that sean hannity, quote, also had relevant communications while the riot was under way. and in the days thereafter. and that, quote, the communications make you a fact witness in our investigation. within the letter, they have released a number of text messages. they say that there were others in addition to that, bu

jamie gangel, thank you.carrie cordero who previously worked with the u.s. justice department. what's your reaction when you hear about all this evidence the committee has gathered about what trump was doing while his supporters attacked the capitol? >> well, one thing i think that's important, jake, is that it sounds that people are actually cooperating. so up until now we've heard a lot about those who are not cooperating with the committee but the example that jamie gave of keith kellogg shows there are individuals close to the former president who are voluntarily cooperating and providing the committee with information. that's a really important development. i think the question that the committee has to look at, if they're exploring potential criminal referral or criminal charges is the actual conduct. so i think it will be a harder case for the committee to look at the absence of activity on behalf of the former president versus what did he affirmatively do instead of what he didn't do? because then you

. >> i am joined now by jamie gangel who has details of the sean hannity texts. so what have we learned from these new text messages? >> first of all, whether or not sean hannity cooperates with the committee, anderson, this is bad news for donald trump. these texts show sean hannity, mark meadows having exchanges that are, in effect, a betrayal. they are talking behind his back. and just for context, i want to point out what the committee's letter says at the top. they say that -- to hannity -- quote, you clearly had -- you seemed to have advanced knowledge regarding president trump's and his legal team's planning. that he was, quote, providing advice, and that he had relevant communications while the riot was underway. that these communications make you, hannity, quote, a fact witness. so, let me just go through a couple of the texts. this first one is from december 31st. and this is sean hannity to former-chief of staff mark meadows. we can't lose the entire white house counsel's office. i do not see january 6th happening the way he is being told -- he, being

i mean, obviously, we -- there's been reporting by you and others, jamie gangel and others about mark short and others around the vice president speaking. >> right. who are talking to the committee, who are cooperating with the committee, members of staff and also people who are protected the vice president don't forget were witnesses here. i would have to say after talking to my sources that it would be highly unlikely that the former-vice president would just walk in and say oh, yeah, i am going to voluntarily cooperate here. i think, um, they'd have to subpoena him and that's kind of iffy. you know that that would be litigated and it would take a long time for that to go through. i think one thing that has been suggested to me and could happen is that perhaps the committee would give him written questions. >> uh-huh. >> and he might answer those written questions. i mean, remember donald trump did that in the mueller investigation. i don't know that it did them a lot of good but that is a potential way to kind of work a compromise here. if it were to come to that. >> robert, here w
