jamie leary is live now. a man shot him near the middle school in parker last a lot of us are waiting for good news jamie. >> reporter: hopefully we'll hear that today. detective bright remains in critical condition. not only the sheriff's office but the district attorney's office and will dan's brother steve will be speaking and answering questions about the deadly shooting. detective bright was injured in a shoot out with a suicidal man last friday. he was 40-year old randall his home and crashed his suv near the middle school where he was shot and killed by the deputy. an update on the investigation is still ongoing and we'll hear more about his condition and injuries from the trauma center medical director. we're told he's improving but still critical. there's been a huge outpouring of community support for the detective. his gofundme page had $36,000 raised and also can contribute to if you like. it's for families and victims critically injured or killed on the job. both links can be found on our westboun

jamie leary is live this morning in boulder county with the latest. his next stop is the courthouse. >> reporter: that is correct, alan. he's filing custody after being on the run for most of this week. the place where this happened neighbors say anybody would have stopped to pick up these three hitchhikers but it was the 71-year old who saw them first and decided to help. she stopped to help them and because of it she's in the skull fractures. the 16-year old was arrested yesterday in broomfield. boulder county has been after him since monday when he picked up collins and two other hitchhikers in lefthand canyon. she invited them back to her cabin to wait and that's when collins beat her with a fire poker. we spoke to the victim's son >> she chimed in on this phone call and he told me that they had him in kus custody and i said you got him? and he said yes, we got him we're transferring him to over to boulder county tonight and i just looked at my mom and said to her, we have him mom. we got him. . >>. . facing a judge. he will likely face multiple c

our jamie leary is live outside the boulder community hospital where that woman is in serious condition. jamie. >> reporter: at last check, she was in serious condition. that 16-year-old who police say put her here in the hospital, he's still on the run. we want to show you that picture. this is 16-year-old jeffrey collins. he's from arvada and he has had previous run-ins with law enforcement. many have expressed anger over the photo because it was a full day before police were able to release it. the reason being is because he's a minor. it took a crowd to get it out -- court order to get it out there. katie kulpa picked up th inside the home, without warning, collins struck kulpa on the head with a fire poker. he fled and the other two teens ran to a neighbor's to get help and call 911. >> just a tragedy of someone being repaid by kindness this way and how everyone is affected because we're close knit up here. >> reporter: now, that was kulpa's neighbor. she said she is just shocked that somebody would do this to police are still looking for this young man. they say he's dangerous. an

jamie leary is life as we cover the story. judge is expected to rule here it was a year ago that richard kirk changed his plea to guilty by reason of insanity and he was sent to colorado health mental health in pueblo for evaluation. this morning it is finally ready and it will go before a judge. the judge will review that competency report and decide whether to send the case for trial or to send kirk to pueblo to the state mental health hospital for treatment. the defense suggests so impaired by the marijuana candy he may not of intended to kill his wife. last year the kirk's children filed a lawsuit against their father for negligence and they went after the maker and seller of the edibles claiming the seller failed to properly warn a potential side effect. before her death christine kirk told dispatchers that her husband was acting more drunk than violin crawling through a bedroom window cutting his legs and broken glass. prosecutors argued that kirk and press the weapon to his wife said. richard kirk is facing first- degre

jamie leary is back in the neighborhood this morning. this seems to be a lot of details to sort out in this case. >> reporter: an important piece of investigation happening today. police conducting an autopsy this morning to determine how the victim died. she was found dead in this home on east andrews circle. police somebody in custody though. they're calling it suspicious so we're hoping to learn more about the investigation in general. police won't say why the death is suspicious. it was just after 5:30 yesterday evening when they responded to the home on east andrews drive. a neighbor tells cbs4 that it is a woman who is dead and her husband who is a teacher and pastor at a nearby church was taken away in handcuffs. after calling the police. >> they just came back from school. i said well, what are you thinking? he said the paramedics are here. and i took off. >> reporter: the neighbor also told us that the woman was actually very sick. he said there's no way that the pastor would have to harm her. police are questioning several peop

jamie leary has been on scene all morning. there is a good question here about why the first person got out of their car. >> reporter: alan, this is the question that denver police are still trying to answer this morning, why that first victim was ever outside of his car to begin with. it started under that underpass. an officer on teen told us road rage was a poib later they said there is not enough evidence in this case to point to that as the cause right now so dpd is still investigating. there are a number of scenarios they are going over at this time. a man had pulled his car over and was standing outside of it when he was struck. that was around 5:00. then a passerby got out to help and he and the victim that he was tending to were both struck. that first victim ended up scene. the other died shortly after being transported to the hospital. based on the time that it happened, drivers likely had a very hard time seeing the men as they drove by. >> well, think about the time of day. this was shortly after 5:00 a.m. so traf

jamie leary is live this morning with the latest from boulder. >>> good morning, it was a crime spree that police and sheriff's deputies here in boulder say left 11 cars totalled with damage including into custody yesterday evening and likely facing a judge this morning. police say the crimes were committed using a air soft or pellet gun shooting eight cars in longmont. others shot in airy and lafayette. the suspects used a blue toyota stolen out of denver. it's the one people were shooting from as reported. then one of the suspects also stole a mini van that was pursuit was called off because it was too dangerous. someone called police after saying the mini van was in a parking lot in lafayette about 8:30 last night. the three suspects were not in the car so police put stop sticks down in the parking lot which flattened the tires of the van as the suspects drove away. they continued driving getting as far as baseline and north finch and then they ran. police were able to capture all >> it's been a long day with all the criminal mischiefs that have been sited several times in the area
