we'll check in on the roads with our jan carabeo out in the mobile weather lab. first though katie is here with your eyewitness forecast. slush turning to ice? >> absolutely, we had the brief little respit with temperatures that were actually seasonable for a change, who knew that 45 degrees or so could feel so warm to us, right? now the thermometer readings starting their decline yet again, as the true batch of arctic air actually settles in. always tend to have little hint of delayed re when is it comes to the thermometer readings as opposed to when the air mass arrives. and it is moving in as we speak. so what you will find happening as we go to storm scan three perhaps quick snowflake here and, there lingering flurry, more than anything partly sunny day unfolding, then, as skies begin to clear, the temperatures are only going to continue to decline. so we're basically at the warmest temperature that we're going to find all morning long here, and actually all day long as more chilly air mass settles in. not just us. so often these frontal boundaries affect muc

for now live in exton, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thank you jan. kyw1060 jim mel worth out keeping an eye on the road conditions, joins us out in montgomeryville streaming live pictures. jim, we saw what jan showed us what do you have? good morning. >> a lot of the same here, very wet slushy, mix here, looks like maybe they got about an inch of snow before this turns to rain. that's turning it to slush driving isn't terrible, it is a lot slower, not a lot slower maybe 10 miles an hour under the speed limit. feels like a safe speed. but as jan mentioned, a lot of ponding or puddles on the roadway, in places where you wouldn't normally see them, as the slush kind of blocks some of the drainage, most of the roads that i've been on 202 363, 309 out here, the tire tracks are just wet the cars that are out is kind of cleared a path however. you get in some of the turn lanes, and that can kind of sneak up on you. those are coated with thicker snowier slush, and that can casino every get a little slippery. for the most part slower but nothing, nothing too

jan carabeo joins us in the cbs-3 mobile webber -- weather lab in the fairmount section. how many is it looking out there jan? >> reporter: good morning, not looking great on the side street and back streets, where you are going to have your problem this morning. not talking about problems on the highways. those are pretty clear and dry. but take a look at 20th and wallace this morning, this is what you are going to encounter when you come out the door on the side street. >> this road right here completely covered with ice. we had this crunchy slushy, center spot here where the plows either went over it once or not at all then just have two tire tracks, very icy that we're kind of sticking to right now. and as we come to the intersection, doesn't look much better than that, all of the snow pushed out into the middle, very icy mix right here. so, what happened yesterday of course, with the temperatures, increasing, it melted this snow but then over night froze it into this block now seeing. this is what all of that back streets here in the fairmount section look like right

. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now at police headquarters where the homicide investigation is now underway. jan, good morning. >> erika ukee, good morning brutal attack overnight, as you mentioned this victim was shot 17 times. now, police are trying to figure out y and they are still searching for the suspects. take a look at the video. this shooting happened right around midnight in the 1400 block of south pack son street in kingsessing. that is when there were numerous calls about gunfire in the area. when police arrived they found a 51 year old man unconscious, shot in the face, in the body, lying on the sidewalk. he was pronounced dead by medics on scene. police say he was shot 17 times. at this point the motive is unclear, but investigators may have a lead. police have located surveillance cameras close by that may be able to help. >> we also found what appears to be the victim ace wallet laying just feet from the victim's body. so there is a possibility that this shooting and homicide is robbery-related. it is unusual to find the victim's wallet on the sidewalk next

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo at the scene right now in east falls to bring you to up date. jan? >> reporter: ukee, good morning. that's right lincoln drive here in east falls reopened right around 4:00 this morning. police had said they wanted to get this road reopened before the morning rush. they had certainly done that. city salt trucks were out here putting down yet another layer of salt in hopes this finally fix this icing problem here in the area. take a look at this video to get a bert look at the conditions a short time ago a lot of water and a lot of ice. those conditions at this location had been problematic since yesterday. road crews had to close lincoln drive last evening because of ice police say the sewer couldn't take the run trough yesterday's snow and rain, so water back up on to the road. lincoln drive did reopen for short period last night but closed again after ice once again formed. with the temperatures, so cold this morning any water still standing caused this problem. so penndot has about 50 trucks out right now salting and responding to any left ove

. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now near the scene with the latest information, good morning. >> reporter: erika, ukee good morning, we have confirmed with the philadelphia fire department that this is all the result of a gas main rupture. coming to you live this morning, from the 100 block of ben death strike near ardly street in chestnut hill pgw as you can see is on scene now working on the gas main. crews are also going door-to-door in neighboring homes in this area to make sure there are no other high levels that high gas readings. fortunately, there were no injuries here this morning. now, we're still work to go get you more information, but here's what we know right now. >> this gas main rupture happened just after 1:30 this morning, you can see the force behind it, the windows on the bottom floor of some of the these apartment here blew out, in all officials on scene tell me tempean were evacuate from the hands full of amounts here, some of those people have been allowed to go back inside this morning. their aoun vet been ventilated and no serious damage.

jan carabeo joins us now from the scene she is on 52nd street to bring us all to up date. jan?> good morning. ukee, nothing makes a cold morning even colder than work like this, and still dozens of fire fighters remain on scene here in west philadelphia this morning. putting water on this burning building we're little far from the scene but if you take a look at the video we shot earlier this morning, you can get great look at how intense the fire was. those flames raging and ripping through this building, now there is fire started right around 4:00 this morning. and the 200 block of south 52nd street. as firefighters arrived on scene, the fire rose to two alarms we're told, this is commercial building at one point had pharmacy on the bottom, doctors offices above. now told by the fire department this is vague and the building. at this point, no reported injuries. however, some of the neighboring homes have been evacuated, this is still a very active and ongoing scene. if you take our live pictures at the scene you get a good idea about how cold it is this morning. averaging 2

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo is out on mobile weather lab on the roads to tell you more about it, jan good morning to you. >> reporter: ukee, erika good morning, that's right, you may run into some slick spots some icy patches. coming to you live from west sixth street, in media this morning, where i want to show you what some parking areas would looking like. this is a scene, a plow on the street. first back up over a lot of slush that's turned into ice. so once you get out of that, then you're onto your side streets. they may look like this. you can see just little bit of sheen up ahead on your left-hand side there. it looks wet. let me tell you that's all ice this morning. encountering slick spots this area well treated. i see a lot of salt in front of me. however where the salt doesn't touch on the very edges, maybe turning print sections onto side street, that's where you run into problems. we've been all around the delaware valley morning, we started out in fairmount that, at this point has been the worse area. a lot of those small philadelphia streets were plowed only g

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo, joins us now at philly international with the very latest on this scary stuff. january, good morning. >> erika, good morning. there were dozen of passengers on board this plane when it took off here, at philadelphia international airport yesterday. fortunately, no serious injuries. however, this is a rocky landing, no one on board will soon forget. >> snapped a picture of american airlines flight 1825 sitting nose to the ground after a rocky landing at houston's george bush airport. on board, 52 people and four crew members who just hours earlier had taken off from philadelphia. a frightening landing, a spokesperson says, cautioned when the plane's nose gear did not deploy. a problem identified by the plane's pilot as he spoke to air traffic control. >> we have not had success we do believe our nose landing gear is still retracted. our two main landing gears appear to be down, and the nose wheel appears to be up. >> i understand also your plan is to evacuate upon the aircraft stopping on the runway. we concur with that. >> reporter: the america

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us at police headquarters with the latest information. jan, good morning. >> police have yesterday to identify the man shot and killed overnight just too much blood, too many injuries to his face, to quickly identify him on scene after all, he was shot 17 times. >> bruce al attack in kingsessing overnight. shots, 17 times at close range, in the body and the head. >> we know at least 17 shots were fired for semiautomatic weapon. we found 17 spent shell casings most of these shell casings were within feet of where the victim had collapsed. >> happened minute before midnight, south paxson street, after multiple reports of gunfire, police arrived to find an unidentified man lying unconscious on the sidewalk, now, police are hoping, surveillance nearby, and evidence left at the scene provide the leads they need to catch a killer. >> we also found what appears to be the victim's wallet, laying just feet from the victim's body. so possibility this shooting and homicide is robbery related. it is unusual to find the victim's wallet on the sidewalk

every winter, the suburbs are trying to to get through one more day of t "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo out in exton, chester county, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, what we're seeing right now is mainly rain here in exton, chester county, when we are getting out to the live location, the highways are very, very wet. we saw a lot of ponding. the roads look much like this parking lot does. all soaked with this slush any rain that fell overnight or any snowy should say that fell overnight is now saturated by all of the rain. take a look at the roads just outside of the exton square mall saturated, as well, very slushy, and very slippery. this is what you will deal with this morning. penndot, however is prepared. though more than 300 salt trucks, and plows, on the roads, actually treating these roads late last week, they were in preparation for the squawls that moved through, a lot of the salt is left over this morning for this storm out here this morning fairly quiet. we do have some private plow companies clearing off the parking lots, and these malls, in this area. so th

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now out in that cbs-3 mobile weather lab with a look at the roads good morning. >> erika, good morning coming to you live right now from sixth avenue in folsome. where the roads are hit or miss, i should say some are worse than other. take a look at what we've got in front every us, one of the side streets here, looks like a lot of snow on the side of the street, a lot of the ice on the side, then sometimes you'll come into some wet patches of course with us hovering around the freezing mark here at 32 degrees, according to the cbs-3 weather, mobile weather lab we can run into some patches of aisles, and that's what we're seeing in front every us right now that gloss that sheen, over the road, very slippery, at times. soap folks really have to pay attention to what they are doing today. definitely will vary from place to place, but right here in folsome see a lot of melt, that of course, has refroze end. a lot of these side streets that we're running into right now are very well treated, a lot of salt on the street. but with so much of

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now in clementon, camden county, with a look at the conditions, good morning, little bit better, snot snowing nearly as hard as it once was because of the snow, haslett up just little bit the roads are looking a lot better than they were, too. coming to you live from the 400 block south white horse pike seeing a whole lot of blacktop. not the case earlier in the morning, early morning commuters had tough go at t take a look at this photo, a lot of salt trucks out on the roads, a lot of plow trucks on the roads, as well, but because snowing so shader, very hard for them to keep up. but they were doing their best. now that it has let up, just a bit, folks are out here these local plow drivers getting sidewalks cleared up parking lots cleared up. you know what? very tough go at it. but here on the gown, accumulations, looking like this. we have about three four, maybe even 5 inches here light powdery stuff. very fun for the kids to play n not good snowball making term, but maybe snow angel will do. and, now, that the roads are looking better, the pa
