mola, good morning, again. >> reporter: well, good morning, janai.just two vaccine sites here in manhattan. that's despite demand for the vaccine far outpacing supply and the biden administration just days ago declaring this a public health emergency. the fda now looking for ways to stretch its current supply and more than a month after the country's first case of monkeypox, cases are now topping 7,000 throughout the country. the cdc says nearly 1.7 million people in the u.s. are now eligible for the vaccine. now, so far about 600,000 doses have gone out nationwide with 1.1 million total expected in the coming weeks. still, guys, that is not enough. so now the fda looking at a new approach that could potentially lead to a fivefold increase in the u.s. supply of the vaccine. basically they would give doses in smaller, shallower injections under the skin allowing up to five doses per vial. it's a strategy that still needs to be tested in clinical trials in a process that could take weeks, if not months. but experts saying the studies at this point are
