janai norman, excellent reporting all week there for us, thank you. let's get right to senior meteorologist rob marciano, tracking it all over again tonight. hey, rob. >> reporter: hi, david. very active pattern. another dynamic rain-soaked system is heading towards new england. right now, it's hitting chicago. you got a lot of heavy rain early this morning, and now a tornado watch in effect until 10:00. we could see tornadoes that are strong and long track. it's a dangerous situation there. and beyond that, the zone is going to be from michigan all the way back through st. louis and kansas city during the overnight period. then pushing into the ohio valley and then up into new york, in hard-hit vermont, by around this time tomorrow night. and some of these storms will have wind and heavy rain, maybe another three to five inches of rain. if we get that, that will cause more flooding, unfortunately. and there's more rain beyond that. all right, the heat. alerts stretch from florida, nearly continuously all the way to southern california. most of califo
