abc's janai norman is here with the story. good morning, janai. >> reporter: guys, good morning.ve all heard of roundup. it is a staple for a backyard gardener and now monsanto faces some 13,000 lawsuits alleging its product can cause cancer. so in this case, one of the first to go to trial, a jury in california decided the active ingredient in roundup did, indeed, cause alva and alberta pilliod's non-hodgkin's lymphoma. doctors say they're in remission but the cancer could recur and they've been using roundup for 30 years. the other two trials ended with large awards but nothing close to the $2 billion the pilliods were awarded. however, judges often reduce such large awards, and speaking at a news conference following the verdict one of the plaintiff's lawyers issued a warning to monsanto essentially saying this is not the end. this is only the beginning because of those other lawsuits alberta says she resents monsanto for not warning them about the dangers of the roundup. >> what is the company saying about it? >> it is the german conglomerate bayer that owns monsanto and in a
