i am very honored to join supervisor chu, a supervisor carmen chu, eric mar, and jane kim, and supervisor campos, supervisor mirkarimi, malia cohen is here as well. it is a wonderful occasion to celebrate our chinese new year at city hall. i want to welcome all of you here. i have been thinking about my first month on this job. as you know, i try not to follow the speech sometimes that i scripted for. i tried to speak what is on my mind. the thought here is that it is no longer a lunar new year celebration just for our chinese community. what our community now has to offer is really expanding the family to all of these other diverse groups in san francisco. that is what makes this so wonderful. we can share what this joyous occasion means and connect with all the other families of the city, whether african american, latino families, russian families, or all of the some groups of our asian families, it is what makes the city very special. if i have seen anything the first 30 days of this inaugural apartment that was historic redone by our board of supervisors, it allowed me this special pr

he got married to jane cox vonnegut who was from indianapolis as well. this picture was taken on their honeymoon. he was in uniform there as you can see. they had three children, mark, eddy, and nannet. many years later his sister, alice, died a day or two after her husband died in a freak train accident. alice had four children, and three of them came to live with the vonnegut family, so they had quite a large household. seven children and vonnegut at that time was writing books that, at that time were less familiar, but he had published several books and articles for magazines as well as working a job as a car salesman for saab. the experience of writing about dresden and what happened to him was tremendously difficult for vonnegut. it took him about 20 years to be able to publish the books. jane, his wife, you know, had encouraged him to write it. she worked as his editor on the book. she asked questions and got clarity on issues and helped him to retrieve a lot of those memories that he had repressed. because of the family situation with the addition

i wondered if students would like jane austen the way they did there. i didn't want to be disappointed. i was very pleasantly surprised. curntly this class, today is the last day of that class, i'm teaching "side -- side by side with jane austen. the classes here don't can have the intensity of my classs in iran. people don't ruffle their hair reading narbakov. but there's also a freedom and relaxedness about it which i enjoy. i sometimes think my students do not appreciate what they have. >> will you ever go back and live in iran? do you think? >> i don't know. i would like to leave that option open. i would like to have a portable world and i always dream of going back stipe. >> this is the cover of the book ..
