this was gosh, back in 2016 in jane addams time today and. that's kind of also what set me this path into realizing this cyclical nature of historical patterns at the jena those papers employ undergraduate students, transcribe documents and research individual organizations and events that appear in her correspondence and published work. our students are sharp and curious. many of them note the similarity between some of the topics i mentioned and current events. it is sometimes difficult to explain them how to process the realizations that so close to their lives are not necessarily new that people for the last hundred years or more have been struggling with similar or the same problems. once they understand this idea, it's easier for them to see past patterns, hopefully more clearly build a timeline of how ideas of the past continue to influence humanity for hundreds of years past their inception. the ideas of the progressive era that jane so strongly opposes began long before. and seeing this provides context for them. it's my that during
