with no further ado, i would like to introduce you to supervisor jane kim. [applause] them a first of all, it is such an honor for me to be here tonight. i saw the release team list of grantees that are here today. i feel honored to be here to talk a little bit about some lessons in leadership that i have learned i guess over the last 10 years because i am sure many of you can share much more than i can in terms of the work of improving our community. thank you so much for having me here. i was asked to talk a little bit about how i got to where i am today and also talk a little bit about things i have learned about leadership over the course of my career, so i thought i would touch on that and really just open up for questions and answers. first, what i do -- i serve on the board of supervisors here in san francisco, and i represent one of our more diverse districts here in san francisco, the south of market, the tenderloin, mission bay, treasure island, and north part of mission. it actually starts a block and a half away from this hotel, a little south of

supervisor jane kim is also here. they are both here because i know both have a strong commitment to our youth in san francisco. i want to welcome all of you here tonight for two reasons. one, i know we are going to give some awards out for our youth leaders, but the other reason i wanted to make sure you had a good invitation to come to city hall tonight was because we have been waiting for one of you to register, wondering if you are going to run for mayor or not. there is a vacant seat for youth to lead the city. i think you can take this job and run with it. this city needs to be more kid- friendly, more youth-oriented. i think you could have a big input to make sure that what we are doing will be there for you to raise families as well. i want to congratulate all the nominees tonight. all of you who have been participating in this competition for the fellowship have been doing great work. i have been reading through some of the accomplishments that you are a part of. i got to meet some of you, luckily, last month

certain amount of structural material, but we have gotten a tremendous amount of help from supervisor jane kimo get the understanding that we cannot have a pile or a built structure on the property. again, we continue to try to work with the group to make it as safe and sanitary as the city requires to not impact anyone else's rights or the situation. that is going forward, and then lastly, we have a very, very severe member-iolved collision. i reach -- appreciate people that reached out. the body charged with overseeing them is not only your just for policy and discipline but also cares about them as they do their job. at any rate, they were in response to a knife fight on 24th street on halloween night, and as they negotiated per toro, -- protero, it threw them into a spin, and they got wrapped around a telephone pole. all three offers, miraculously if you saw this collision, will all survive, i believe. one was discharged from the hospital the next day with stitches and a concussion. another one was, we believe, discharged today with your drum damage and a more severe concussion, and then a

my name is jane kim, i will be cheering today's rules committee meeting. i am joined by a supervisor elsbernd and scott wiener in place of supervisor farrell. the court today is miss wong. we like to thank jennifer lowe and mark bunch. >> of the items on the agenda recommended go the full board unless otherwise indicated. item #1, ordnance amending the as minister of code to establish the commission for power, purpose, and duty to establish membership criteria. supervisor kim: the author of the legislation is here today. supervisor wiener: today, will be considering legislation to help san and cisco react to and plan for the future of criminal justice in this state, specifically around realignment. a lot of folks will see a reduction in state prison populations. that will be accomplished partly by shifting prisoners to county jail. in the future, there will be sentences that in the past would have sent prisoners to state prison who instead will go to county jail. this will alleviate the state prison overcrowding. it also has the potential benefit, particul

[applause] >> good morning, everybody. how're you doing? whoo! i am with supervisor kim's office, and i am here to tell you that we stand strong with you. in march early in the year, i was invited to attend to see one of the adult day health care centers, and i realized how critically important these services to the community that we take care of our seniors. in march, we introduced a resolution telling the governor to not eliminate this very important program. so we were extremely dismayed that he did not fund this program in his state budget. we're very thankful for the mayor and his budget staff, and we will stand with the board of supervisors to support the adult day health center in our budget. we want to make sure that the budget reflects the values of our communitie

. >> we have been talking to supervisor of jane kim. watch for the next episode when we will be back. >> i tried to think about this room as the dream room, where we dream and bring some of those dreams to life. i feel very blessed that i have been able to spend the last 31 years of my life doing it my way, thinking about things better interesting to me, and then pursuing them. there are a lot of different artists that come here to work, mostly doing aerial work. kindred spirits, so to speak. there is a circus company that i have been fortunate enough to work with the last couple of years. i use elements of dance and choreography and combine that with theater techniques. a lot of the work is content- based, has a strong narrative. the dancers have more of a theatrical feel. i think we are best known for our specific work. in the last 15 years, spending a lot of time focusing on issues that affect us and are related to the african-american experience, here in the united states. i had heard of marcus shelby and had been in join his work b

supervisor avalos: i am introducing a hearing request along with supervisors jane kim and malia cohen addressing our foreclosure crisis which exists in san francisco, often overlooked, but there are certain neighborhoods and districts where we have a concentration of defaults and foreclosures, specifically in district 11, district 10. but there's also a lot of neighborhoods throughout san francisco where we have a high rate of foreclosures like in the south of market neighborhood, as well. this hearing will be looking at solutions that we could put forward to, as a city, to prevent defaults and foreclosures in the future and ways we can hold banks accountable to doing more work to support homeowners against defaults and that is my submission. >> supervisor mar? supervisor mar: madam clerk, colleagues, i've been working with diverse neighborhood and small arts groups in the city expressing concerns with the lack of commitment to cultural equity in our arts program. i'm directing the city attorney to draft an ordinance to strengthen cultural equity in the arts in san francisco by allowi
