[ applause ] >> the mayor said it but i think we have a ribbon cutting almost twice a day now in district 6. this is an exciting one. the first constructed fire station in san francisco since 1950. it's pretty amazing considering when the fact that the mayor brought up is the busiest station in san francisco. in my time at the distribution, unfortunately i got to know a lot about the fire department. we have had 13 working fires, several which were very significant and displaced or injured our residents. i learned how hard the fire department works, how important their speedy response is in terms of saving lives and of course our possessions but also how they build relationships with their constituents at a time of intense loss, anxiety and fear and they do it with a great deal of compassion and dignity. i think that's the most important aspect of the work they do on behalf of our city. it's truly incredible to have a department to be able to get that type of feedback from our constituents. it's great to welcome our fire department to district 6. yes, it

. >> we have been talking to supervisor of jane kim. watch for the next episode when we will be back. >> i tried to think about this room as the dream room, where we dream and bring some of those dreams to life. i feel very blessed that i have been able to spend the last 31 years of my life doing it my way, thinking about things better interesting to me, and then pursuing them. there are a lot of different artists that come here to work, mostly doing aerial work. kindred spirits, so to speak. there is a circus company that i have been fortunate enough to work with the last couple of years. i use elements of dance and choreography and combine that with theater techniques. a lot of the work is content- based, has a strong narrative. the dancers have more of a theatrical feel. i think we are best known for our specific work. in the last 15 years, spending a lot of time focusing on issues that affect us and are related to the african-american experience, here in the united states. i had heard of marcus shelby and had been in join his work b

for the support that we have in city hall who represents them and join me for welcoming supervisor jane kim. >> roughly about 12 or 13 years ago, the very first board of supervisors meeting that i attend was a land use committee meeting where i came to speak on behalf of the china town development center to speak in support of the central pro-yekt and the very first meeting that i attended at city hall and the first time that i spoke at public comment. >> 13 years later it is such a pleasure to be here today. and to honor a tunnel boring machine and also to be here to honor an asian american woman. i think that it is incredibly satisfying to know that we are heading this way on this project and it feels like it is taking so long and it has taken so long. so many years of community advocacy, the thousands of meeting, and it is great to be here with some of my past colleagues and now with my current colleagues both from china town and our families collaborative and our residential association and those that i work with today from the (inaudible) to many of our south of market allies. this cen
