i was talking to jane miller earlier.looked like there was a hard time getting rid of the water. the winds are not really that strong, but they are still there. the rainfall totals, for the whole storm, have an history of the storm -- new york city, long island, places like that got the bulk of the surge action but not people of the rain. we are the ones down here -- but not the bulk of the rain. we got 7 inches of rain. we got all the rain and they got all the wind and the title flooding and what not. how much rainfall did we get? just a few places here. tv hill, 5.7 inches, a little more than that at the airport. almost seven in annapolis. inner harbor, 6.8. rosedale, 7.82. 6.825 in cordova. over 8 inches of rain there. garrett county, 26 inches of snow. oakland, 12 inches of snow. never thought i would be talking about rain and snow all in one breath. impressive cloud picture this afternoon. here is the storm spinning around, so we are stuck with it for awhile. it does not look like heavy rain though. gusts of 40. by t

we're going live to jane miller downtown where they often see the worst of the flooding conditions if that happens in baltimore. jayne? >> in the last hour, we have gotten a dose of what all of the restrictions are put in place. there is nothing gentle about this storm. i think it is about 50 degrees but feels much colder. the good news for this area is most of the wiring is underground. the power outages are rae even with high wind. the bad news is it is right on the water. it is one of the lowest line areas in the region. that is why you see the businesses with sandbags. that is why they have tape of windows. that is where the cars are off the street because of the potential flooding. we have seen none of that today. what everybody will be watching for are the targets, the high high tides, especially as the wind starts to shift. travel restrictions are going into place. that is an example of what we're talking about the heavy wind. it just knocked over the paper box. the travel restriction goes into place at 6:00 tonight. the only people that should be on the road our emergency pers

wanted to be journalists or had been working on the college papers, women like nora, jane, ellen goodman, susan brown miller all came to "newsweek" as researchers, realized he would never be promoted and then left fairly quickly to have very successful careers afterwards. but we were the good girls. so we were highly educated, mostly white middle-class girls who were told in college that we were very smart and we are very competent, but the word career in the '60s was hardly ever mentioned. some women went on to navy medical school or law school but most women were expected to have a job until they get married and have children. we came to "newsweek" thinking that this is a fabulous, and it was, a very glamorous job to have in those days. we started as actually women were hired on a male desk to deliver the mail. and you graduated to clipper where you clicked newspapers and deliver them to the riders. if you are really good you got to be a researcher. that was a real exciting job because, in fact, you worked on the stories of the week that were breaking news. you worked with writers, reporters, the editors.
