. >>> let's bring in msnbc political reporter jane tim now to talk about the rest of today's news.let's start with congress and guns. why the lack of urgency to pass any form of gun control legislation here one day after the shooting in california? >> you know, there is a lot of urgency but we reached a political stalemate. democrats on the left want to pass comprehensive gun control reform, want to have things changed. republicans are so opposed to any kind of legislation that they say would infringe on their second amendment rights and there is no middle ground here, that even the reforms that maybe people could agree on, there is so little trust on either side and so much frustration that in two years since newtown, so little has gotten done that no one is going to find any common ground here, even things like the bill we saw yesterday trying to get people on the terror watch list, not to be able to buy guns. >> the vote was closed around tightening the background check system. is this something we could see grow legs in the future here over the next couple of weeks? especially
