. >> reporter: janelle, people here are very shaken by what happened here at the business school yesterday afternoon. tonight we are learning the man, the suspect, may have had a background in protecting others. police say he died pointing a gun at them. >> there's supposed to be class all day today. >> reporter: computer lab manager phil mahoney showed us the lab classroom where uc police shot and killed an arm the student after they say he pointed a loaded semi-automatic gun at them yesterday afternoon as over the students hit the ground. police say surveillance video caught the entire ordeal. >> he pulled the weapon out of a backpack. he was pointing it at one of our officers. the officers were giving him the command to drop the gun, drop the gun, drop the weapon. he did not do so. >> reporter: police have identified the student as 32-year-old christopher travis, a business school undergraduate who had just transferred to cal this fall. and they say he may have had experience as a security guard. >> there's certainly more that we can stand to learn. >> this is really such a tragedy. and

. >> janelle wang is here. so many people were talking about last night's interview. he says he's not a pedophile and he's innocent. today a new york nonprofit said one child stayed at the home of jerry sandusky and may have sent several others there. they provide free summer vacations for low-income children, and sandusky and his wife served as volunteer hosts. they are now looking through their records. he is accused of sexually abusing eight young boys, meeting most of them through the second mile, the charity he founded. mike mcqueary witnessed one incident when he was a graduate student in 2002 and notified coach paterno. both are criticized for not doing more. in an e-mail obtained byty associated press, mcqueary said i did stop it. not physically, but i did have discussions with police. now up to this point mcqueary is said to have only notified administrators. >>> a startling new report revealed a major gun safety gap, and now the senate is considering new legislation to close ha loop hope in the federal criminal background system. the report found identified
