i'm janelle wang. >> and i'm raj mathai. the rain has been active and damaging. the next question, how will this impact our weekend? we have a team of reporters and meteorologists across the bay area. let's begin with our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri who is tracking our late night conditions. jeff? >> we're seeing the next wave just as forecasted beginning to move in from the south. more of that coming up, but i want to look at these storm reports. we have one of about everything today. flooding, flash flooding at that, trees down, winds that topped 60 miles per hour. one of the top reports coming in northwest of sacramento and woodland. that's where we had that funnel cloud report. the storm spotter said the funnel was about 800 feet off the ground. some folks are debating whether this touched the ground or not. but a funnel cloud. this was pretty well designed, not very destructive. there was not any damage reported with this. but certainly a very severe look here at some california weather that did cross throughout the state. you can see on the radar, we a

. >> and i'm janelle wang in for raj mathai. let's get to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. >> at least 150 lightning strikes across california and some of those occurring in the bay area. san francisco, walnut creek, also into richmond. you can see as we zoom in, a strong line of storms is impacting parts of the east bay. we did have lightning strikes across walnut creek, but it's beginning to calm down. off towards the south, you're getting hammered in san ramone. right here you can see some heavier areas of rainfall producing at about 0.81 of an inch per hour. this could cause short term flooding issues. off to the north of that, you can see a couple of lightning strikes right now. this is not the time to be outside taking photos. if you can hear that thunder, you are close enough to be struck by the lightning. expect this to push into dublin over the next six minutes. we'll have more details coming up in my full forecast. >>> breaking news out of the south bay. officers are at the scene of a deadly crash in south san jose th

i'm janelle wang in for raj mathai who is on assignment. >> i'm jessica aguirre. millions of san jose water company customers will be asked to follow the toughest water restrictions in five years. marianne favro looks at the guidelines and how the company is hoping to get the customers to stick to them. >> reporter: in january, the reservoir south of san jose was so shallow you could see a car stuck in the floor and after the rain, water covered the car but it won't stay this full for long, which is why last month the santa clara water district board asked users to cut use by 20%. it's up to san jose water companies to make sure it's 1 million customers conserve. >> we're regulated by the public utilities commission and we're filing an application to enact rules that would allow us to get to the 20% target. >> reporter: if approved, san jose water would ask customers to repair leaks within five days, stop washing downside walks and patios, only water on assigned days based on your address and stop watering during the day. the reason san jose water companies are as

in my home state of warrick there is a young woman named janelle and she was looking for opportunities to support her family but before she could go back to school or participate in a job training program so she could advance her career, she had to find affordable childcare for two of her children. thankfully, with the assistance of this childcare and development block grant program she was able to get subsidies to cover the cost and she now works. she works part time and she's attending school and becoming a surgical tech. this federal grant program expands opportunities to parents like jan el and so many across our country by helping them with the cost of childcare. and that's why i'm here today to support this effort to reauthorize the childcare and development block grant program. mr. president, we all know the cost of childcare has soared in recent decades. the census bureau found that childcare costs have nearly doubled since the mid 1980's and that high cost hits low-income families especially hard. for working families who live below the poverty line, the cost of childcare can
