janelle wang spoke with the director to find out what surprised her most when making the film. >> thee going to not get in. the dream school you want to get to is 4%. most kids are not going to get in. but to watch a young 17, almost 18-year-old go through that is really brutal. it's terrible to the psyche of these young kids. at the same time as 17-year-old s heartened to see they're just kids full of energy and not taking themselves too seriously. >> the teachers admitted there's racial profiling. they have a lot of asians and i know they want diversity. it shows that being asian and obviously highly qualified could hurt you. >> there's a kid in our film who is considered the lowell god. he's the hero. he has a 4.7 gpa. and is the president of the school and is just brilliant. that's really the expectation of if you're an asian-american student you have to be perfect. our kids are asked to write a personal essay where they have to state who they are. how can they do that when they aren't being taught who they are. they aren't taught the history of what it means to be asian in americ

janelle wang joins us now with the officer's family and joins us with their thoughts.a difficult day for them on this sentencing. >> yeah, it's been a difficult day and difficult three and a laugh years. half years. he was convicted of murder and drunk driving charges. he was drunk and had got noon a gotten into a fight with his wife and got in his car and rear ended a chp officer. prosecutors were able to get the murder conviction after showing ali had been pulled over several times in the past for driving over 100 miles per hour and uncovered video on his phone saying he didn't care. the officer's mother spoke to me this afternoon. do you have any sense of closure at all now that the sentencing has been handed down? >> i don't feel that there will ever be a closure. it's just an ongoing process. and just a little bit of weight has been lifted, but, you know, we've been dealing with the court for three and a half years. so it was good to get to this day. >> officer camilleri was a father of three children. they are now 5, 10, and 15 years old. mom sharon camilleri say
