i'm janelle wang. we are following a developing story after a car went crashing over a cliff near santa cruz. scott budman is live on scene. we saw the dramatic video. what do we know? did the driver survive this? >> reporter: it seems he did. let me take you out to the scene of this dramatic rescue. i want to show you some images shot earlier today. this happened around 2:30 in davenport. this is up highway 1, about 12 miles north of santa cruz. a car drove off the road 300 feet down a cliff. as you can see from the footage, the car landed at the edge of the sand where it meets the water. the chp and fire crews showed up. they tried a rope rescue, eventually reaching the driver via the life flight helicopter. they were able to bring the driver up to the helicopter. he was found conscious but badly injured. they brought the driver into the helicopter and then took him to stanford hospital where we do not have an update on his condition. he was alive at the time of the crash. here is what the chp said a
