i'm janelle wang. we are following a developing story after a car went crashing over a cliff near santa cruz. scott budman is live on scene. we saw the dramatic video. what do we know? did the driver survive this? >> reporter: it seems he did. let me take you out to the scene of this dramatic rescue. i want to show you some images shot earlier today. this happened around 2:30 in davenport. this is up highway 1, about 12 miles north of santa cruz. a car drove off the road 300 feet down a cliff. as you can see from the footage, the car landed at the edge of the sand where it meets the water. the chp and fire crews showed up. they tried a rope rescue, eventually reaching the driver via the life flight helicopter. they were able to bring the driver up to the helicopter. he was found conscious but badly injured. they brought the driver into the helicopter and then took him to stanford hospital where we do not have an update on his condition. he was alive at the time of the crash. here is what the chp said a

i'm janelle wang. tonight more than 30 hours after the ruby princess cruise ship hit a san francisco dock the ship's captain says they won't set sail until sunday at the earliest. this is not what many of the 3,000 plus passengers on board wanted to hear. take a look at the ship now from nbc bay area sky ranger, still docked at pier 27. passengers have to decide whether to cancel their cruise or wait it out and hope that sunday's timeline sticks. nbc bay area's emma goss spoke to passengers about the latest change in plans. >> reporter: passengers who plan to continue the cruise tell me their itinerary is cut short quite a bit and will only visit two ports if the ship leaves on sunday. donna and david cummings from antioch have been on board the ruby princess since june 26th. that is when they began back-to-back cruises to different ports in alaska. >> they were on the ship, the last kay of our previous cruise is when it

i'm janelle wang. we want to start by catching you up on some of the headlines we are watching right now. first, a developing situation in san francisco. a cruise ship damaged after hitting the dock at pier 27 this morning. tonight thousands of new passengers are on board that ship right now as it prepares to head back out to sea. the run-in with the dock happened around 6:00 this morning. the ruby princess was sailing back into the bay after a ten-day round-trip cruise to alaska. that's when princess cruises say the ship made unexpected contact with the dock. none of the passengers or crew members were hurt, but there was visible damage to the dock and the ship. crews are working to make repairs. the next round of passengers still boarded the ship for the next voyage, which was scheduled to leave at 4:00 p.m., but it still hasn't set sail. >> things happen. i think they would probably send us some sort of -- they wouldn't be boarding everybody right now. i'm not going to worry. it's in their hands. >>

i'm janelle wang. a former theranos ceo elizabeth holmes reported to federal prison.ou might think. >> reporter: we spoke with one legal expert who tells us elizabeth holmes is not being treated any differently than other federal prisoners convicted of non-violent crimes. the bureau of prisons actually offers a 15% reduction in prison sentences early on. this is to encourage good behavior among inmate population. this say screen grab from the website that shows that elizabeth holmes prison sentence has a release date of december 29 of 2032 instead of 2034. which means her 11-year three-month prison sentence has been reduced to around nine years. the bureau of prisons wouldn't comment specifically about her sentence. they say out of respect for her privacy, safety and security. say that generally speaking, inmates can have their sentence reduced for good conduct and completing programs for rehabilitation and substance abuse, things like that. holmes, who is 39, reported to a women's camp in texas may after she was convicted on four felony counts of fraud and conspiracy
