thanks for joining me i'm janelle wang.re going to begin tonight with breaking news in the east bay. a deadly shooting at a dublin apartment complex. nbc bay area sky ranger overhead. sources tell us police got a call around 215 this afternoon of shots fired at the emerald park apartments on hacienda drive. that's just down the street from emerald glen park. you can see dozens of officers on scene. they found a man dead. police say after being shot in the head. they are calling this a homicide. you can see they're going to apartment to apartment. they have not identified a suspect yet, but say they are actively searching for one. they add there is no threat to public safety at this time. again, a man shot to death in dublin at this apartment complex. we will update this story online and if any new information comes into the newsroom, we will bring it to you. also, in the east bay, oakland's police chief is calling on the public this evening to help bring peace to the city. following a particularly violent week in oakland in

i'm janelle wang. and i'm raj mathai. no driver's license necessary. and that's what makes this even more dangerous. kids whizzing around town on electric bikes and electric scooters. accidents are skyrocketing. nbc's marianne favro has the new data and how cities are responding. the ucsf study looked at the number of injuries on e-bikes like this one between 2017 and 2022, and found that they went up 45% every year during that time period. and when they looked at the number of injuries on e-bikes that number went up 100% every year. when school ends, the e-bikes and e-scooters come out in droves at fisher middle school. according to a new study by ucsf researchers, in 2022, more than 23,000 e-bike riders nationally were injured, a 100% increase over the year before. the study also looked at the behaviors of e-bike riders compared to people riding conventional bikes. found riskier behavior in e-vehicle users, so less helmet use, more alcohol use. but this part might surprise you. ucsf researcher kevin lee says the study also found most of the injuries

i'm janelle wang. and i'm raj mathai. a theft in the south bay will have some long lasting implications for a san jose school. thieves took football and other sports equipment from a shed at santa teresa high school over the weekend. but they also took something else that threatened to alter the entire season. here's nbc's ian cull. before they even had a chance to kick off their season, the santa teresa high school football team was dealt a major blow. the district says it appears someone used a truck to pry open two storage containers and steal sports equipment, along with pop up tents and a storage cabinet full of things boosters used to raise money for the season. all our merchandise that we sell that we use for our fundraising, so our t shirts and hats and, you know, pajama pants and all that. and so it was full. police say the break-ins happened between friday night and saturday morning, but it didn't end with the equipment. in fact, the biggest loss wasn't discovered until yesterday. and on monday when we came in,
