janelle wang is here now with new details. >> reporter: family and friends have identified the shooter as jaylen fryberg. he was a well-liked freshman, homecoming prince, played sports. classmates say there was no indication this was coming. students say fryberg opened fire just before 11:00 this morning inside the cafeteria at marysville high school. at first students and staff thought it was a fire drill because the fire alarm was pulled. but they learned it was a shooting and they ran to safety. problems say the young suspect shot five people before turning the gun on himself. one female classmate was killed. four others rushed to the hospital. three of them are in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head. >> i saw my friend stand up and then i didn't think anything of it. then i turned back around to eat my lunch and i heard boom, boom, boom, boom. and everyone started freaking out and ran and i ran too. >> he was on the football team and stuff. he was a really nice kid. i thought he had no problems. i always saw him as a kid, you know, like nothing really bad with him. >
