i'm janelle wang. we are following a developing story after a car went crashing over a cliff near santa cruz. scott budman is live on scene. we saw the dramatic video. what do we know? did the driver survive this? >> reporter: it seems he did. let me take you out to the scene of this dramatic rescue. i want to show you some images shot earlier today. this happened around 2:30 in davenport. this is up highway 1, about 12 miles north of santa cruz. a car drove off the road 300 feet down a cliff. as you can see from the footage, the car landed at the edge of the sand where it meets the water. the chp and fire crews showed up. they tried a rope rescue, eventually reaching the driver via the life flight helicopter. they were able to bring the driver up to the helicopter. he was found conscious but badly injured. they brought the driver into the helicopter and then took him to stanford hospital where we do not have an update on his condition. he was alive at the time of the crash. here is what the chp said a

i'm janelle wang. a former theranos ceo elizabeth holmes reported to federal prison.ou might think. >> reporter: we spoke with one legal expert who tells us elizabeth holmes is not being treated any differently than other federal prisoners convicted of non-violent crimes. the bureau of prisons actually offers a 15% reduction in prison sentences early on. this is to encourage good behavior among inmate population. this say screen grab from the website that shows that elizabeth holmes prison sentence has a release date of december 29 of 2032 instead of 2034. which means her 11-year three-month prison sentence has been reduced to around nine years. the bureau of prisons wouldn't comment specifically about her sentence. they say out of respect for her privacy, safety and security. say that generally speaking, inmates can have their sentence reduced for good conduct and completing programs for rehabilitation and substance abuse, things like that. holmes, who is 39, reported to a women's camp in texas may after she was convicted on four felony counts of fraud and conspiracy

i'm janelle wang. we want to start by catching you up on some of the headlines we are watching right now. first, a developing situation in san francisco. a cruise ship damaged after hitting the dock at pier 27 this morning. tonight thousands of new passengers are on board that ship right now as it prepares to head back out to sea. the run-in with the dock happened around 6:00 this morning. the ruby princess was sailing back into the bay after a ten-day round-trip cruise to alaska. that's when princess cruises say the ship made unexpected contact with the dock. none of the passengers or crew members were hurt, but there was visible damage to the dock and the ship. crews are working to make repairs. the next round of passengers still boarded the ship for the next voyage, which was scheduled to leave at 4:00 p.m., but it still hasn't set sail. >> things happen. i think they would probably send us some sort of -- they wouldn't be boarding everybody right now. i'm not going to worry. it's in their hands. >>

i'm janelle wang. >> i'm raj mathai. breaking news. that major hazmat spill closing down highway 92 on the peninsula. a part of. this has been unfolding for hours. live now to our nbc bay area sky ranger in san mateo. 92 remains closed from south delaware street to 101. this is a major artery and the mid peninsula here, it's been prompting a lot of detours. you see part of that freeway there, the long line of cars. drivers headed to the san mateo bridge now spilling on to city streets. the hazmat leak is come interesting a utility truck carrying cleaning substances. as that happens, you see all that traffic there. we are told that the tanker belongs to the san francisco puc, the public utilities commission. san mateo fire says it's cleek ago corrosive product called sodium bisulfate. it's a relatively low risk, but it can cause irritation to your eyes and skin if inhaled. hazmat teams are still working to get full control of the spill. a cleaning crew cannot come in until hazmat crews get full control. as a precaution, people and busin
