us now with the very latest good monday morning to you, janessa. >> hi. good morning, guys good morning, everyone we have tropical storm elsa, and it's maintaining its integrity right now. e reason for this storm it's starting to really rev up across this area just south of cuba we will have two landfalls with this storm system. the first landfall should be in the next couple hours around the cuba area, central to the western area 65 miles per hour us is taind winds. there is that northwest movement at 15 miles per hour as it starts to bounce off land it goes back to a very warm gulf the problem is there is that potential of this storm reorganizing and strengthens and so we'll be watching that for the next few hours now, landfall expected across the florida keys not until late tuesday potentially now into early wednesday. regardless of the landfall, this is a big-time flood threat across this area these are low-lying areas that continue to really watch but you can see the movement will continue to the north. even georgia into the carolinas. we'll be talki

let's get to nbc's janessa webb for the storm's path., good morning. >> good morning, kasie. i do have better news this morning. we do have a lopsided storm system so things are starting to crumble apart. you can see the western side of the storm nonexistent. it's the eastern part that is lashing across central florida, and right now that is causing a severe weather threat. we have tornado wants expanding every from from ft. myers to orlando. we'll be watching that. the latest update from the national weather service 50 miles south-southwest of cedar key, florida. that is where we expect to see the landfall around 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, and also for that 3:00 hour. in that time rate, a potential landfall for that area. 65-mile-per-hour winds. there is that north movement at 14 miles per hour. there is some expectancy, with this warm body of water, it could threaten a little bit and potential where we could see it fluctuate between a cat 1 and a tropical storm. we do watch that closely. which you can see by 2:00, we're going to have th

let's go to meteorologist janessa webb. janessa, humid in new york city. >> oh, definitely. we have high pressure taking over the east coast, and we're going to see dryer conditions before another front starts to come in. we're all watching this tropical system that formed in the philippine sea that now is a tropical storm and it looks like it will continue to make its way across northern japan. so our olympians are going to get lucky with this storm system. by tuesday, still winds 259 miles per hour. it's more toward the northern section where we'll see that landfall wednesday all the way into thursday afternoon. so that's some better news for our olympians across tokyo. widespread rain, though, still going to be an issue across this area where we can see 3 to 5 inches. now, closer to home, we are watching a slight disturbance just across florida. this is associated with a cold front. the national hurricane center forecasting right now a 50% chance of development. it continues to be offshore, but the bands of moisture are really going to be impacting that area. where is thi

we're joined by janessa webb. how are things looking at this hour?we're looking at a very disjointed storm system that continues to really remain offshore across southwest florida. but we have these heavier bands that are impacting sarasota into the tampa area and that's going to continue to increase for at least the next 24 hours. right now, we still have a hurricane with our latest update at 11:00. it's 65 miles southwest of tampa, florida. we still have that forward north movement of 14 miles per hour and it continues to be on track with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. we're going to continue to watch this movement in this area. what happened in the last few hours is in that warm body of water and it allowed the storm system to really intensify. now, we'll continue to watch this overnight. we have storm surge concerns that stretch even for the keys all the way into the panhandle. tomorrow morning we'll continue to see the storm system offshore but really the center of circulation will not make its way into cedar keys area, into the panhandle
