janessa webb joining us now. good friday morning to you, janessa. >> reporter: hi. good morning, phillip. good morning, everyone we are seeing across the nation fairly quiet conditions. it's a soggy start to your friday if you're in the northeast. rain continues the flash flood watches are starting to expire we are still dealing with a good dose of rain from new york city, now making its way into the boston area. it will continue its track north and east throughout the day. so rainfall totals, they will be light for new england. but you can see for maine, up to four inches possible as this front continues to make its way through. and right now we saw throughout the morning, overnight we continue to watch these flash flood watches expire only 2 million people under that concern. throughout the weekend, things will definitely dry out. we are watching our next tropical storm sam has formed throughout the overnight hours. currently 70-mile-per-hourn for upper midwest. cloudy skies for chicago pretty great looking weekend forecast we'll look at that coming up up. >> than

webb hi, janessa, good morning, what are you watching >> i'm still watching ida, unfortunately. this storm system has not died it's causing flood watches across the northeast to the mid-atlantic today some of that weather is going to get severe this afternoon. we have strong wording coming from the storm prediction center several tornados possible from d.c. all the way into new york city today 43 million people going to be impacted by this severe weather as ida continues to make its trek into the northeast today and tomorrow afternoon look at all these flood watches. 64 million people going to be impacted all the way from the higher elevations of north carolina to the boston area. our rivers are definitely overstreamed right now, and we're going to continue to deal with major flooding across the area from pittsburgh all the way to the hartford areain temperatures actually cooling off for chicago. upper 70s. pacific northwest completely different story. the heat's building, and low humidity we'll talk about that coming up. >> that's important to hear. thank you, janessa >>> one b

webb is tracking the latest storm janessa, good morning. we're not ready to hear about it, but we have to >> yeah, you've got to get ready pretty quick because this is a really large storm system. already a cat 3. it's in a good part of the atlantic that is very warm i do expect this storm system to go into a cat 4, potentially cat 5, because it's in a good section of water now it's no threat to the u.s. right now. we're going to be -- continue to watch that turn. but coastal areas of the east coast, we're going to have some high surf, beach erosion that's going to be a problem. but the forecast not in full agreement just yet we'll watch that going into tuesday. still very concerned about southeast louisiana where heat concerns and advisories are in place. look at these daytime highs. they'll be in the mid 90s. avere a different story for the desert southwest. highs back in the 100s so many different weather stories will go back to the west coast. fire danger really increasing this week. we'll talk about that coming up. >> we'll talk to you

let's turn to nbc meteorologist janessa webb who joins us this morning. hi, janessa. good morning >> hi. good morning yes, we've hit the peak of hurricane season and now we do have tropical storm nicholas it continues to be very disorganized but there's a ton of moisture in this storm system. right now 70 miles southeast of the mouth of rio grandee 60-mile-per-hour winds the problem with this storm system, we think there's a possibility it could stall out as it makes its way across land. so right now the latest track has it making landfall later tonight in the overnight h and it will be dumping a ton of rain even into the houston area. it does turn into an area of low pressure as we go into wednesday, but still going to be impacting parts of louisiana into cameron all the way into the new orleans area right now the latest forecast, most areas will see five to seven inches of rain but as this continues to gain steam some local areas all the wayinto coastal sections of texas could pick up 15 to 20 inches and that even streams into parts of new orleans. that's a look at

janessa, good morning. >> hi, good morning. yes, this storm has only moved about a hundred miles in 24 hours. it's going to be a slow go and we're going to be talking about this storm system until next tuesday. it's the widespread rain across louisiana, mississippi, alabama, to the florida panhandle i'm really concerned about it's making its way east/northwest at a snail's pace, 6 miles per hour, sustained winds 35 miles per hour that's not the issue it's the tropical moisture that's really going to be staying in place the latest track from the national hurricane center has it veering more to the north, but that widespread rain is still going to be intact all the way into the weekend the flash flood concerns for 6 million people i do expect this to really expand throughout the afternoon into your evening hours today. now, look at some of these totals we are talking about galveston up to 13 to 14 inches in some spots. right now baton rouge to new orleans only 1 to 2 inches but that's really going to pick up throughout the aftern

let's get an early check on your weather on this thursday with nbc meteorologist bill karins, in for janessa today good morning, bill, good to see you. . >> hey, great to see you guys. so we are watching what's left of mindy this was a quick-forming tropical storm that made landfall near tallahassee, florida, yesterday afternoon it's moving through southern georgia. there is a little bit of rain with it. it's going to be a rainy manufrainy-mornin commute from savannah to charleston and it's going to be well off the coast by this afternoon. so it's in, it's out and it's gone for the history books this was our m named storm and as you can see, by the time we even get to friday, it's well off the coast. we have had some few strong storms including in the last half-hour. a tornado warning in areas of eastern connecticut so this line of storms continues to plow through connecticut and in areas of massachusetts new york city area to philadelphia, all those areas that were hit so hard by ida with the flash flooding. those areas did not get a lot of rain last night. so good for them what's left of t
