janet schultze, superintendent of high schools and have supervised the ranch for the last two years. i want to say thank-you to the civil grand jury for all their work in the report, a debt of gratitude to probation or all of their work. the change they have implemented at the ranch really makes it easier for us to do a much more positive and robust educational model. some of the changes we have implemented over the last year -- you heard about the change in the lead teacher. teachers would profit-based learning, and something that you cannot put a price tag on, passion for the kids. he has a familiarity with that. bringing more of the project- based to the young people down there. i would disagree with the recommendations that we would love to see the ridge utilized more fully and have a more robust enrollment. that would help us increase our funding and ability to add even more staff. we currently have three teachers and a professional. also reiterate the call regarding the facility. it is going to be difficult to increase the enrollment to a certain degree without making the impro

[applause] and i believe we are going to have our assistant superintendent of high schools, janet schultz, accept this on bralve of -- behalf of the boarf education. and i know we have sandy fewer who was the p.t.a. president for a long time at george washington high school. commissioner fewer: i believe i have some of that stuff in my basement. i am a proud graduate of george washington high school as is my husband, as is my daughter, colleen, and so i always would like to ditto on commissioner wynns' request to have all our names put on it. i was p.t.a. president there for many years and i'm very familiar with that school and i would like to add a distinguished teacher, carl oche, who is a gifted teacher in our district, also is a hall of merit recipient for the george washington alumni association and we wish them many, many years of success. president mendoza: commissioner yee? vice president yee: ditto on putting my name on there, except that i'm reluctant. i wish -- i really wish washington didn't exist 75 years ago and maybe 25 years ago. if it had been built 25 years ago, my baske

we heard a really interesting presentation put together by janet schultz, so thank you for that, on the various aspects of our summer school, how students did in our summer school, some things lincoln did last year. they married funding and built a program for all this students that was innovative. we heard from the special ed department about extended school year and some of their planning. we also heard a report on the planning for transitional kindergarten and ms. plack raised concerns about the various options that were presented to us and i think the committee shared those concerns and requested that the full board take a look at this sooner rather than later so i understand it's on the october 11 agenda. is that correct? that we're supposed to hear a report from staff, the full board, about what our options are and give direction. president mendoza: we'll make sure -- can you make sure it's part of agenda review next week? thank you. >> so the next meeting of the curriculum meeting is coming up soon, next monday, october 3, at 530. we are going to begin the conversation on honors
