janette nesheiwat. thank you for being here.with omicron and where this virus is now. >> so what's reassuring so far, bret, today the cdc announced a specific vaccine specifically for can omicron is not necessary. rather what is necessary is getting a booster, a third dose. it has been shown that getting a third dose will increase your protection from about 34% to about 76% in fighting against the omicron variant. and that's really a significant improvement. i can tell you bret, firsthand, of all the patients that i tested positive yesterday my last shift all of them who tested positive had mild symptoms none of them were boosted. this tells us that the boosters work. also if you have only had two vaccines or have had previous infection and natural immunity from previous infection, you still have some level of protection but just to a lesser degree. >> bret: speaking of that there is a study out of israel. and i see all kinds of studies, all kinds of times that suggest that if you have had it before that it does provide you some

janette nesheiwat. great to see you.w you have been diagnosing covid cases. are we missing the mark here? do we need to revisit how we collect the data and broadcast the data? >> so, what i'm seeing, cheryl, is this massive number of cases, more than the beginning of the pandemic and that's because we know omicron is much more contagious than the previous variant, much more contagious than delta, so even though the less severe when you mass the number of cases the problem as it could strain the healthcare system and you will see a lot of healthcare workers becoming ill with the virus and that puts even further strain on the healthcare system because then there's a shortage of doctors and nurses, so when we have an extremely contagious virus with the cold weather and the social gatherings, it's natural to see an increase in the rise in the number of cases and that could ultimately lead to increasing hospitalizations. i completely agree with you, it's not about the number of cases, it's how many of those breakthrough cases

janette nesheiwat, a fox news contributor. so good to see you.e who are hearing about these antiviral pills? how much comfort should they taken this right now? >> a lot of comfort, alicia. despite the number of cases we see surging throughout the nation, we are still in a better place than we were at the beginning of this pandemic because we are looking at a different way of treating covid. we now have two antiviral medications that have emergency use authorization by the fda, paxlovid and molnupiravir. it is recommended to use paxlovid because it does have a higher efficacy than molnupiravir by merck, but if we don't have paxlovid available, then we should go ahead and use the other antiviral bed, because it can still give you 30-50% protection against death and hospitalization. whereas paxlovid by pfizer can give you up to 90% protection. what does that mean? you are less likely to be hospitalized, less likely to lose your life. if you're able to start these antiviral pills, ideally within 72 hours. if you still take them on day four or five, i
