how bad is all of this going to get to janice dean in the fox weather center? this coming but it's coming to fruition. and i don't like that part. what do you see going on here? >> close to two feet in parts of virginia the mountainous regions of fisherville, virginia. 20 inches so far. over a foot in creationville west virginia. over a foot for you. and even maryland is close to a foot. now, for d.c., the event is almost over. and it's been mainly a rain event. it was little too warm for snow totals. we're not done with this system yet. it's going to linger thursday into friday and perhaps give us some big totals along the northeast coast up to new england. so there is is the storm right now. the lowest cell is moving offshore. it's going to continue to pound the coast line with highways, some storm surge and wind gusts 50 to 60 miles per hour. all of the areas that were battered by sandy in october, all of those natural barriers were gone. and that's going to cause some major beach erosion in those vulnerable areas across the northeast coast line. so, rain mi

janice dean is with us at the fox extreme weather center. spring is officially two weeks away. there is your silver lining this morning. looking at the snowfall totals come up over 17 inches in rocky bar, virginia. we will definitely see some to foot snowfall totals. the storm just got its act together within the last six to eight hours. a lot of snow west of the washington dc area. you can see along the coast, mainly evening event. as you can see we are kind of fighting with the rain and sleet and we are still going to struggle between the heavy wet snow, the rain, freezing rain and sleet. we could see snow totals cut back a little bit. having 40 miles to the west and it's all snow. breaking it down for you wednesday into thursday, it just kind of sits on the shore and lingers and brings us 24 to 40 hours of very gusty winds and implement whether all along the coast. coastal flooding is going to be a concern, especially in the areas that got hit by hurricane sandy. those natural barriers are gone. this will be a big concern, power outages w

janice dean is here and she is tracking the track of that storm. good morning, janice. how are things looking? >> look at some of the snow totals 2 feet of snow in the mountains of west virginia. 20 inches in fishersville. even down to north carolina half a foot of snow. even though dc was mainly a rain event west of dc north of the area got the snow we were forecasting. let's take a look at the satellite imagery over the last few hours. this is the huge storm system you can see the impact along massachusetts the snow is flying across long island up toward connecticut and boston. you are also seeing the snow. that's where we think we are going to see the potential for the most snow is in the new england area. temperatures too warm for snow. regardless we are going to see the airport across the northeast. excess of 5 miles an hour in some cases and heavy snow will develop in eastern new england. 6:00 a.m. friday and we are seeing the snow fly across boston and new york. stay with us and then you have the coastal flooding a lot of coastal flooding. winds will be relentles

right now, janice. >> the storm is on the move.zen states right now have some sort of winter weather advisory. look at the snow totals we have already gotten over a foot in yuma, colorado. around the goodland kansas area, 8-inches. and just about 8-inches in denver. let's take a look at the storm that is on the move. it is going to make its way across the ohio river valley and the mid atlantic. i also want to talk about the potential of severe weather. first we will talk about where we have the winter advisories. over a dozen states in the pinks the winter weather warnings. we could see 8-12 inches of snow. and then the watches extending into the ohio river valley. severe threat, the warm side of the storm where we are seeing the potential for severe weather across all of the states we could see hail, damaging winds and even isolated tornadoes. tornado watch in effect for parts of mississippi until 1:00 a.m. local time. north of that and east of it is where we have severe thunderstorm watches and severe thunderstorm warnings right

janice dean the weather machine extreme weather tonight. where is this storm going, janice?'s moving to the east coast. 48 hours later pushing across the ohio river valley down towards the south. this is the same storm that brought blizzard conditions across the rockies and the northern explains and eventually will move all up and down the i-95 corridor tomorrow morning into the midday as you can see all of the big cities affected here. we think from half an inch to an inch of rain and then on the back side of this, we could see the potential for little bit of snow. but mainly a rain event really from the gulf coast all the way up to main, shepard. some cases we could see one to two inches of rain fall which could lead to localized flooding. >> shepard: some rain and lightning here last night. and we have got some lightning behind me tonight in rome. what should we expect for the conclave? >> more of the same unfortunately, shepard. taking a look at the satellite radar imagery over the rome area. we have several impulses of rain and showers and possibly some thunderstorm act

janice dean tracking it all.re we get to the storm today, they closed the federal government yesterday because there was going to be snow-quester, and yet not so much. >> it was a bust. i will say that forecasters across the board, including myself, predicted five to eight inches of snow in and around the district capitol. and that forecast was a bust. they maybe got .4, .4 inches of snow. i could give you a million reasons why it happened that way. but the bottom line is you can't mess with mother nature. and my hearts go out to all the local forecasters in d.c. this morning because they are having a hard time of it today. we're all eating humble pie. now west of the city, you go 50, 100 miles west of the city, they got snow. so part of the forecast was right, as you can see snow totals. two feet of snow in the mountains of west virginia. 20 inches in the mountains of virginia. even north carolina, half a foot there in the mountains. here's what we're looking at right now. the coastal low is offshore, but still
