incredible stuff, janice.dozens of reports of tornadoes yesterday and of course the flash flooding which is ongoing. we've got kind of the stationary front that is positioned and on that front, in front of it, that's where we're going to see the potential for heavy rainfall and severe storms, more severe storms including hail, damaging winds, flooding rainfall and isolated tornadoes throughout the day in some of the areas that got hit yesterday and the day before that over the weekend. here's the radar estimated precipitation. in some cases 4 to 6 inches of rain in a very short period of time. we've seen those high water rescues. unfortunately, more of the same today. we've got more rain in the forecast, of moving through this area and behind it, my friends, if we weren't talking about severe weather, we would be talking about incredible amounts of snow over the rockies. we'll be dealing with unfortunately weather related news over the next couple days, into the memorial day weekend. ashley: we'll be very busy

it's been a rough night, janice.missouri, a severe weather outbreak over the last 72 hours, from texas all the way up to illinois. we have tornado watches still in effect for parts of missouri through illinois, up towards indiana. tornado watches meaning the conditions are favorable for tornadoes. we have severe thunderstorm warnings within the tornado watches and the severe thunderstorm watch and a lot of lightning with this. people are urged to stay indoors. the severe threat continues today for 40 million people stretching from techs as all the way -- texas across the ohio river valley intoorks the northeast and mid atlantic. parts of pennsylvania could see strong winds, hail, isolated tornadoes throughout the afternoon and this evening. so a big area of concern as we go through the next several hours and then we have to worry about the flooding potential across situations that have dealt with flooding for the past several weeks. so unfortunately flash flood watches and warnings are posted for some of those areas

janice: over 20 reports of tornadoes.s of tornado watches that we have been looking at over the last day or so. and you can see where we have over 20 reports of tornadoes. now, flooding is going to be a concern. much of oklahoma under a flash flood warning. so, even though you are not getting the tornadoes, the flooding is going to be a huge concern, a lot of these rifersz are almost at record levels. not only in oklahoma but parts of missouri and texas and, of course, all the way down the mississippi river valley. we have a tornado watch. we have a new tornado watch parts of oklahoma and arkansas until noon local time. so, conditions are going to be favorable for tornadoes. and not only arkansas and oklahoma but texas, all the way up to missouri. it won't be as severe as we saw yesterday but we still could seat potential for large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes and flash flooding. unfortunately the flooding could be the legacy of the system. behind it, cold enough for feet of snow. if we weren't talking about tornadoes,

. >> janice, what's the knock on effect of this? these trade talks don't exist in a vacuum, right? and as you know we rely so heavily on china when it comes to north korea, so the lack of a trade agreement, how is it affecting the u.s. relationship with north korea as we rely on china for that relationship as well? >> reporter: well, what we have running parallel to this break down in trade talks and this intensifying trade war is this ramping up, this escalation of the situation with north korea. these are not entirely independent events. we've often seen the two sides working together or at least north korea and kim jong-un looking to gain leverage with the united states often in collaboration with or in consultation with china. so we could see this, you know, continued pressure mounting on the trump administration to have some sort of foreign policy win. if things are breaking down on the trade side kim jong-un may see the advantage of trying to have president trump or allow president trump to preserve what appears to be his only foreign policy win so far, and that's this new an

janice: it is pretty rare. we have the threat again today. the mid atlantic and the northeast and across the plains states. in and around kansas city, they had a large wedge tornado. thankfully, did not go through the city proper but certainly outside of the city limits we saw damage and he destruction. we do have severe thunderstorm watches issued for parts of texas, through oklahoma and arkansas and i know we're talking about the tornado threat but the flooding threat is going to be dire in some of these areas, the arkansas river, mississippi river valley, the missouri river valley. so another day of severe storms including large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes. >>> but the flooding is going to be a huge concern, not only today but the next couple weeks as all of that water has to go downstream. we're talking about flood numbers, close to the great flood in the 1900s. this is a big deal, something we'll be watching over the next several weeks. cheryl: thank you so much. lauren: on wall street we're seeing a rally in treasuries and selloff i
