here is janice. >> janice: category 4 storm.rong hurricane at one point it was the one of the strongest hurricanes we have ever seen in the gulf of mexico. it's interacting with land a little bit. it could, actually, intensify again to a category 5. it only goes up to 5 on the saffir-simpson scale and then we are expecting an impact, a landfall probably wednesday evening when doesn't help with the storm surge in these vulnerable areas. and tampa right now you are in the bullseye for the worst of the winds and heavy rain and the storm surge. now, i just want to show you the storm now. it's 160 miles wide. but, as it continues to move towards the florida west coast, it expands, so more real estate will be impacted by the winds, the rain, and the storm surge, which we think is going to be the biggest problem with this storm. so, right now, upwards of 15 feet for the tampa bay area. they have never experienced that in their lifetime. heavily populated area of tampa bay all that water and winds just continue to move in towards the ba

let's check in with senior meteorologist janice dean for forecast. >> janice: we are still watching thegreat lakes and the northern plains, even the northeast. these are wind chills, frost and freeze alerts for many big cities. kansas city towards cincinnati, harrisburg and also asheville. okay. where we have 12,000 people without power still because of helene, almost three weeks in. forecast highs in the high 50's and 60's with overnight lows at the freezing mark. it's actually going to be cold enough for snow for the appalachians. in system of these areas that still do not have power. so that's my big concern here is it's going to get record cold in these areas over the next few days. for florida, we are hoping the power comes back on this week. temperatures in the 80's, so not as big a deal as our friends in north carolina. but, you know, a cold front is going to move through and we will have dry conditions and temperatures in the 70s and 80's overnight temperatures in the 50's. but, again, not as bad for our friends in north carolina and, steve, you know, we are still highlighting t

. >> carley: turn to senior meteorologist janice dean. >> janice: we have a wildfire burning in connecticut. this is a story we're following, we have an injury and death of a firefighter. we've had dry conditions, warm temperatures in connecticut and the northeast, as well. fire weather alert for the state of connecticut and we'll continue to monitor that. dry start to fall. i mean, we're talking about less than an inch of rain for new jersey, philadelphia, delaware. this is going to be a record-setter for a lot of big cities. 23 days for new york city without rain. we're on pace here for maybe the driest on record. we'll see. no rain in the forecast over the next week or so and temperatures were warm. we set october warmth records for philadelphia, newark, boston, detroit and albany. you get the picture. no rain. it's been gorgeous, if we don't have rain, we're going to be in line for potential of wildfire danger and you can see across all of these big cities of i-95 corridor, even toward the southeast, multiple cities could see first month ever with no rain. crazy. wildfire is a big deal.

senior meteorologist janice dean is in our fox weather center. janice. >> we did get the 11:00 a.m. advisories. winds have gone down a little bit. we were anticipating that. you can't look at the category. the category means the winds. we don't have categories for storm surge. sometimes i think we should. the storm surge will be catastrophic, historic. we set records with helene storm surge just two weeks ago. this in some cases will be double that. i also want to make mention that within the latest advisory they're talking about tornado super cells. this is another story we have to follow in the next 12 to 18 to 24 hours is the potential for tornadoes. you have got the propertation from the counter clockwise motion and that is causing friction with the land. so yes, we'll see tornado damage in some of these heavy populated areas. by the way, that's on the east coast of florida. so this is going to be a brig concern. tornado watch until 9:00 p.m. one of the risks. we talk about the storm surge. that will be imminent along the west coast of florida. heavily populated neighborhoods. m
