let's go straight to janice dean live in the fox extreme weather center. >> it's been a very active afternoon across sections of central and south florida. tornado watch is expiring at 5:00 p.m. local time, but they just issued the severe thunderstorm watch down towards south florida until 11:00 p.m. local time. we don't have any watches -- sorry, any warnings right now, but we did have earlier tornado warnings around the orlando area. so we will carefully monitor this region, and through the evening and overnight hours, this is the area we're going to be watching for the threat of severe weather. not only tornadoes but large hail and damaging winds. in march, the tornado probability is right here in the sunshine state with the highest probability in central florida, which is where we had the tornado warnings earlier today. we also saw tornadoings early this week in california. and in the mississippi valley, in towards florida and the southeast. now it has been very, very slow in terms of tornadoes this march. typically the average january through march is around 178 tornadoes. we've only had

janice dean is live outside the fox news building here in new york city with the latest. you're to the outside. what happened? >> it is a beautiful day in new york. at 40 we'll take it because we've been in the deep freeze for weeks now. we have a weak cold front moving across the central u.s. with it the chance for rain and wintry precipitation. this is light in nature. not a big blockbuster snowstorm. it's just going to be a nuisance. still cold across the northern tier and upper midwest. there is some good news for folks across the midwest as well as the ohio river valley in the northeast where we'll bump up 10 to 20 degrees. chicago 30 today, 50 by monday. around 48 on monday for new york city. warmer on tuesday. even minneapolis jumping for joy because you've been into the freezing temperatures. 43 in minneapolis. you know what comes with march? we've got a topsy-turvy weather pattern. fairly calm across the central u.s. we'll be watching a developing storm system that could bring measurable snow across the midwest and the northeast. we'll see the potential for some

let's check in now with meteorologist janice dean, live in the fox weather center. what do you have for us. >> they've had a period of clearing skies within the last 12 to 24 hours, but conditions are going to be deteriorating, as you can see in red, that's the possible debris located that we had information today, and then the yellow was the debris -- possible debris that we saw on satellite last week. so as you can see, with the satellite imagery, you can see clouds rolling in, that's our next storm system on the horizon, arriving tonight and tomorrow. then we'll have clearing conditions, and then another storm moves in. part of the reason we have these storms is because we don't have any land to break it up, because this is just ocean. and we don't have any really data to bring us information on weather or radar or the water temperatures that kind of thing. this is very remote and relentless in terms of storm systems. that's going to continue wednesday we could have an area of clearing. hopefully we'll get information within the next 12 to 24 hours, as you can se

janice dean is here. >> what do they say? in like a linen, out like a lamb?appening in a lot of sections, including new england, as eric pointed out, where we have another storm moving through, mainly a rain event. as we get into the opening hours, some will pull some cold air from canada. so we will watch the temperatures fluctuate here, you see the rain along the coast. as we get into sunday overnight into monday morning, the commute, we could see a few snowflakes on the commute. just keep that in mind, especially boston where we'll get the wintry mix. then across the west coast, things are quieter, but interior sections, in the great basin of the rockies, that's where our next storm system is forming, bringing the potential for a blizzard across the upper midwest monday and tuesday. we have blizzard watching up, where we could see very blustery conditions. a wide area where we could see winds gusting and over a foot of snow. so taking a look at minneapolis, enjoy it today, 61, but then it will drop tuesday and wednesday. >> i trust you, summer will be comi

for more on that, let's turn to meteorologist janice dean. >> i've got good news and bad news. we've got a quick warmup across the central u.s. look at some of these temperatures, especially monday for minneapolis. dallas texas, 80 degrees and even bismarck getting into the 50s. we have a setup across the west. a pipeline of moisture moving into the west. cold air coming in from canada and the northwest storm and moisture from the gulf of mexico is going to give us a setup for a storm midweek across the central u.s., towards the ohio river valley and into the northeast. there's your future radar. we'll watch this system and this one combined. this is tuesday. as we get into wednesday and thursday, we could be dealing with a pretty major storm system across i-59 corridor. taking a look at our latest computer models, here's our storm right off the coast. we'll see interior sections all snow. a mixing along the coast. and then as this storm exits, all snow. this is one of the computer models we're watching. certainly, we'll fine forecast. but heads up, winter's not done yet. >>> t

meteorologist janice dean is watching the extreme weather center. this is like the busiest year of your life, right? >> aside from the hurricanes we saw in 2005 when we went to the greek alphabet, this is incredible, gregg, the amount of storms we've had. it will be historic. we could see historic cold across the plains. and the fact that we're probably going to get to the second snowiest season in philadelphia with the next storm system. but look at this cold front. this is incredible. 4 in kansas city. 1 in minneapolis. 76, in new orleans. we're in the 80s in south texas here. look at that clash. i mean, that's incredible. and the windchills, dangerous windchills. we have windchill warnings in effect after the midwest northern plains where it feels like in the minus teens here. they have been just been in the freezer for weeks and weeks and weeks in these areas. and the cold front is very impressive, and with the potential for all of that cold air, we've got the mixing here of freezing rain and sleet. we're going to see accumulating ice on the roa

we don't blame janice dean live in the fox extreme weather center, but by next week when i'm talking to you, janice, a little more sunshine, please. >> i'll call july, as shepard smith said last week and maybe he can help. i certainly haven't been able to help lately. take a look at the moisture that's streaming into southern california as dominique reported. some of this energy is going to fuel our snowstorm across the plains and the northeast. taking a look at it right now, you can see that moisture streaming in across these areas, some areas could get easily a foot of snow over the next 12 to 24 hours. current wind chills, you can see where it's bitterly cold across the upper midwest. there's our arctic front where we see the snowfall. south of that is where we have warm, unstable air. we could see severe weather. this is all going to move eastward over the next 24 to 36 hours. there is our forecast radar. a lot of moisture coming up from the gulf of mexico. an ice storm could be in the making across the ohio river valley, tennessee river valley. where you see pink is dangerous ici

meteorologist janice dean leave in the fox weather center. come on, jd, bring it on, a little warm good news. >> we will have a good, quick warm-up. enjoy it while it lasts, maybe 48 hours. some of these temperatures are in the 40s in minneapolis, omaha in the 60s. dallas in the '80s on tuesday. we watch things drop a little bit. a little moisture across texas, louisiana and then we've got all of this moisture streaming into the northwest. this is going to be the energy that is going to fuel our next storm system that's going to move across the central u.s. there's our storm track, our jet treatment, where all of that energy is going to move eastward and southward, then perhaps a pretty big storm system in the offing for the northeast on wednesday and thursday. so the jet stream dips. we have cooler air, of course, then we will watch this storm system develop. >> that is a pretty impressive storm if all of the computer models come true, with a mixture along the coast. all snow as this storm moves north and eastward. we could be dealing with u

we'll check in with meteorologist janice dean with more on this. and that is not the only trouble spot in the country now? >> no tis been business. in the northwest, they are dealing with storm after storm after storm. a lot of green and the yellow that you have seen is the heavier downpours and it is ongoing for weeks. we are getting some of the rain in central california where they really need it. but unfortunately we'll see more rain in the very soaked region in the northwest. over an inch is expected in the seattle Ñ4Ñhp)ea south of portl and we will get 3- 4 inches and seattle set a typically rainy season for them and average around seven and half inches for february and march and over 15 inches this year and last record in 1979 and just over 14 and half inches. incredible rainfall that continues. and we have a set up here with the jet stream bringing more rain and mountain snow to the region and work week and into next weekend, really incredible. and the area for the search and rescue that will be rainy. and we'll get more rain tuesday and he

joining me for the very latest, from the fox news weather service, janice dean tonight, what do you have? >> well, sean, this is a very remote area in the southern indian ocean where we don't have a lot of land to break up these storm systems. i also want to point out we have a cyclone, with winds of 140 miles per hour. the good news is the storm is going to weaken and we don't think it will affect search crews. however, we do have a lot of weather systems, getting into the fall. we have these weather systems moving eastward, and again no land to break it up. so we could see high surf and waves as well as very strong winds, this is our gsf model forecast, we don't have our buoys out here to give us information we typically like to see. so we go by satellite and we do have the potential for more rain and wind across the region over the next 24 to 48 hours. the good news is as we get into the latter part of the work week, remember we're 12 hours ahead of eastern time. we get into the clear weather, which is not typical of what you see this time of year. so they will have several days to as

meteorologist janice dean in the weather center. hi. >> another storm system we're watching very carefully because this one could be a big snowmaker. so, we have two pieces of energy, one across the northern plains and the midwest up here and then we have all of this moisture from the gulf of mexico. so, two of those things coming together phasing is what we call it across the northeast. the coastline could bring us our very big storm system, the exact track and how much snow still yet to be determined, but we think it's going to happen tuesday afternoon and into the overnight. so, you can see the snow starting to fly for the drive home on tuesday, remaining across the coast in the overnight into wednesday and boston, new england, you could be in for jackpot snow totals. so, here's what we think right now. here is one of our forecast models. could see several inches of snow, 6 to 12 inches across the appalachians and then as we get up towards new england, new york city watching you very carefully, as well as philadelphia. d.c., we t

that's why we'll talk to janice dean, as if all of that wasn't enough, janice, really, more? >> yeah, a look at the temperature change from this time last night, jamie. a 51-degree difference, that was into the 70s, and now we're into the 20s across dallas, texas. this is some cold front, especially for march, where we're dealing with single digits, minus digits here across rapid city. 34 in memphis, really concerned about the folks across memphis because we're into the throws of major ice storm. windchills dangerously cold across many of the states this evening. and there's our setup for our winter storm. heavy snow around the kansas city area. south of that, across memphis, tennessee, we could see accumulating ice on the roads and the power lines. we could have power outages, out for days, if not weeks. a very skiery situation, unfortunately, unfolding across the tennessee river valley, and then the snow. the snow that could dump maybe 8 to 10 inches in and around the d.c. area. look at the ice accumulation. we could see over half an inch of ice in some of the big cities. t

meteorologist janice dean joins us from the fox weather center.en longer than six weeks, since the groundhog said we were going to have six weeks. >> i'm glad you're blaming the grou groundhog and not me. we had this big storm and it brought severe weather across the gulf coast. tornado warnings today and yesterday. heavy rainfall across the southeast, up to the mid-atlantic, and then the snow. the snow is falling across the ohio river valley, d.c. already reporting some snow. we could have 5 to 8 inches on the ground tomorrow morning. and there's your forecast temperature radar. 32 degrees. a lot of snow around the d.c. area for several hours. we could see an inch an hour in some of these heavier bands. 25 degrees by 7:00 a.m. monday. just south of the new york city area, although we could get a little burst of snow, and then around 1:00 p.m., another burst of snow for d.c. i don't know. they might have to shut that city down tomorrow, because we're going to be dealing with senchl hours of heavy snow in the overnight and into tomorrow. and that's

our on meteorologist janice dean has been trying to look into that.ll get a report from her to try to find out. but before i go to her, scott, can i ask you if there any way -- how would we know whether there was severe teachurbulence the aircraft? would a meteorologist know or would that only be on board the aircraft, the knowledge? >> that depends, the turbulence is very hard to see on any ground radar like a weather forecast or anything like that. but you would still be able to analyze conditions in the area, particularly if there were storms in the area. that would be the obvious thing. but there are ways that investigators can track back what the weather was and whether or not there is any possibility of clear air turbulence that either could have been so severe that it caused a structural failure of the airplane or caused the massive -- what is called an upset of the airplane that caused it to dive out of control. there are ways that they could do that. but of course in the end the black boxes are going to be what really tells the story. >> scot

meteorologist janice dean is live in the fox extreme weather center. >> greg and jamie, we're back to brrr in a lot of these areas where we got a quick taste of springtime. that seems to be the rule, right? we get a quick taste and then it's taken away from us. someone has to give the memo to mother nature the first day of spring is this wednesday. but look at these temperatures. the average 37 in minneapolis, into the 20s on sunday. into the 20s for chicago. and even new york city we got a quick taste of some nice 50-degree temperatures and then we're back into the freezer on sunday and monday. and look at the lows. they're going to stretch as far as portions of georgia and the carolinas in terms of very cold weather. so there's sunday night's lows, 26 in louisville, 51 in atlanta. and then watch as we go to 37 on monday. so this trough is going to dig in as far south as the southeast over the next couple of days. look at kansas city, okay? 71 today. then we've got this storm system moving through bringing some measurable snow in some areas. down to 37 on sunday. and then we'll rebou

meteorologist janice dean is live in the fox extreme weather center with the forecast. >> we are going to have to watch the computer models carefully to see who gets the most snow out of this system. we are already starting to see it. part of the moisture in the southwest is going to make its way across the plains and northeast and give us the energy for our next winter storm. there is the satellite radar imagery. easy some areas 6-12 inches. you see that plentiful rain and rotation across portions of central california. much-needed rainfall, but it comes with a price with the potential of mud slides and flash flooding. we'll continue to see the onshore rain in towards california and the southwest. that energy is going to move eastward and give us the potential for a big ice storm as well as a snowstorm. you see the pinks. this is sunday 9:00 a.m. across the ohio river valley, tennessee river valley where we could see significant icing up to 1/2 inch of ice will be very dangerous on the roads and power lines. there is monday morning. we could see the potential for severe weather across

>>> let's check in with janice dean who was singing along.iving and doing the best i can ♪ that's all i know. >> you can't help but be in a good mood. all these cheery people here. >> let's get to some weather, shall we? we'll have a nice warm up for much of the country. we'll be in the 40s today for new york, that's just unbelievable. we are all jumping for joy. and then it gets cold again. so let's enjoy it while we can. we'll take a look at the temperatures. bismarck, the average of 26, 55 today. dallas, 80 on tuesday. omaha, nebraska, 68. you're up to 35. and for minneapolis, i mean, lovely. into the 40s sunday and monday. and you have been into the freezer much of the winter, so enjoy it. we have this active pattern across the northwest. a lot of rain and mountain snow. avalanche concerns. then we'll see the system move out of the gulf of mexico. that's what is going to give us the potential for a big storm across the ohio valley and the great lakes on wednesday and thursday. take a look at the precip they will get across the northwest.

janice dean is at the fox weather center with today's forecast for that part of the world. we now here there's a cyclone bearing down on the search area. >> a cyclone in that part of the world is what we typically call a storm system, a low pressure area that's moving into the region. so cyclone doesn't mean a hurricane. they're talking about a storm system north of the area. they've been dealing with a fairly good conditions really over the last six to 12 hours, but conditions are going to deteriorate over the next 12 to 24 as another storm moves in. this is the window of opportunity that search crews need to get in there and to investigate. of course, they've been dealing with very harsh conditions. we don't have any land to break up these storms as it moves over the friction of the land. so the ocean can be very unforgiving with winds in excess of 40, 50 miles per hour and plenty of storm systems as they go into the fall and winter season here in this part of the world. as you can see, this is one of our model forecasts showing this next system moving in over the next co
