. >> janice mackie frayer joins us. the president on the ground there.d he make on china trade? >> reporter: well, this was a very important meeting for president trump with china's president xi jinping, given the escalating trade war and the trade talks that have deteriorated over the past several weeks. there appears to be a truce. nothing close to a deal yet but president trump announcing the u.s. will not impose war sanctions or more tariffs on more chinese goods, something he had threatened to do next week and that trade talks are effectively back on. the tariffs that are already in effect will remain in place. it appears that talks will resume. there is progress on that. also, the president appearing to backtrack on the ban on the sale of american equipment to huawei. this was a huge issue for the chinese side going into this meeting with president trump, china seeing the u.s. government unfairly attacking one company in particular, not out of national security fears but fears out of competition. getting a lift of this ban would represent a huge vi
