janine?porter: claudine i spoke with a woman who lives across the street she told me she couldn't sleep last night because this fire really shook her up you can see it happened here in the back of the home you can see the fence there is all burnt and broken and the windows there had to be boarded up fire happened just before 7:30 at a home located in a neighborhood near mclaughlin and story road this happened last night firefighters say the man who lived there called it in to 911 telling them he was in the garage when he smelled smoke when he got out somebody was still left in the home he told that to firefighters, the flames were coming from one of the back bedrooms as firefighters knocked it down they did a search and found a body an arson investigator was called which is standard procedure they are still investigating the cause of the fire so at this point we don't know if it was caused by someone smoking or candles electrical or if there's any reason to mrefb this is -- believe this is su

janine de la vega is in san jose this morning with more on how this all started.ll us the suspect had just been brought in from mexico and was at a holding cell. he was handcuffed behind his back but somehow he managed to get the cuffs to the front of his body and escape. here's a picture of that suspect. you can see it looks like he was scraped up after trying to run away from custody. he was in the process of being booked from a murder of 2009. he was able to escape and run out of the building. chief larry was driving in through an electric gate when he saw arias sprinting. he jumped out of his car and chased him. he tried to tackle him once but he kept going on nearby streets. you can see from these pictures that esquivel's shirt was ripped and he got a cut. the police department will be looking into security measures and how he was able to get out of the holding facility which is supposed the to be secure. we will be reaching out to the chief to see if he will comment. >>> a shakeup in cal's football department after a recruiting coordinator and wide receivers

janine de la vega is joining us live from police headquarters with details on that and security issuesod morning, j mean. >> reporter: it was the police chief that ran after this suspect and tackled him. the suspect we're being told was this a holding cell facility. and that is supposed to be a scourger. i'm being told by officers this morning that that is a locked area. you need a key for it. it's a steel door. there are questions as to how this suspect got out. here's a picture of the police chief. you can see his shirt got ripped and he was bleeding from a cut after tackling the suspect. he was driving through an electric gate when he saw a handcuffed man. that man was 26-year-old hector flores he was wanted for murder in 2009. he jumped out of his car and chased him. they ran on to nearby streets where he was able to take him down. arias was handcuffed behind his back but somehow to get the cutouts front. we have reached out to the police department to find out about the security measures at that holding facility and how arias was able to escape. >> janine de la vega live in san jo

what a story janine. >> yes, dave it is. you know bryan stow was so excited and honored to be invited to throw out the first pitch for the san jose giants and he did great. before bryan was actually seriously injured, he used to be a paramedic and he would sit inside the stadium alongside his gun knee ready to treat anybody who needed help. stow was welcomed by a cheering crowd as he made his way on to the field using a walker. his son and daughter were at his side. he spent the past several years doing rehab. learning to walk again. the giants fan was severely beaten in 2011 outside of dodgers stadium which caused brain damage opinion the san jose giants promise stow's family when he was ready they wanted him to throw out the first pitch. when he stepped on to the mound his practice paid off. earlier in the day ktvu visited stow at home where he shared how he has been doing and how his injury and recovery has changed him. >> trying to find me. it sounds kind of dumb in a way i guess. but it's just me trying to find me now.

janine de la vega is joining us live now from san jose. and they are using social media to try to find her; right? >> reporter: yes, they are. if you know anybody who lives in san jose and her name is lauren and she visited denver earlier this month and they want to hear from you. lauren left a note on a patrol officers car thanking them and now they have gone to social media on facebook to try to find her. here is the post that is on the denver police department's facebook page which says help us find lauren. it shows a picture of a thank you note written on a ripped piece of paper and left on a police lieutenants patrol car. dear officer, i'm from san jose, california and we recently lost an asset to an amazing team lacewing. thank you for risking your life every day for my safety. you're important and i'm super thankful for you. i hope you have a wonderful weekend and god bless. th valuable asset the woman is referring to is michael johnson who was shot and killed by a man who was suicidal. lauren left the note the week after he died. d
