janine de la vega caught up with the santa clara vanguard before they take off for southern california. ornia. ♪[music] >> reporter: this is extremely exciting for this group of teens and young adults. this is the santa clara vanguard. they have been practicing since monday here at christopher high school in gilroy. the santa clara vanguard is an elite drum and bugle core. they are six time world champions. they will be in the opening and closing accurate the rose parade in pasadena. 245 members will be marching, playing music and dancing. they will be performing to a mix of patriotic music including god bless america but also a modern song, uptown funk. we spoke to the captain of the color guard about rehearsals and what the crowd will see. >> it has been two days of intense rehearsals. we have to learn three to four parade tunes. we are rehearsing like 12 hours a day to do so. >> reporter: the drum and bugle core says it is a huge honor. they have only been chosen to be in the rose parade one other time back in 2004. they are ready to be in the spotlight again as they march the five
