janine de la vega is in san jose.l us about it. >> reporter: dave, with this proposal by county officials, they want to install a new video surveillance system in the old section of the jail. it was built in the 1950s. and it doesn't have any cameras in it. supervisor cindy chavez had proposed installing the cameras in what is known as main jail south a month before a group of inmates broke out. they sawed through bars and climbed out using bed sheets as a rope. they will add whether to add 204 cameras to the south section of the jail. the jail and sheriff's office has been scrutinized over the last year. the most glaring case involves three correctional officers being tried in court for the beating death of a mentally ill inmate in 2015. more cameras were installed in the main jail following that incident. adding cameras will add transparency and accountability. the vote takes place today at the supervisor's meeting which begins at 9:00 a.m. and we will be there to tell you what happens. back to. >> janine de la vega

janine de la vega live in san jose. janine de la vega, he was arrested after a seven-hour standoff. >> reporter: yes, he was. chavez was take known custody without incident. there was no struggle. we are told that he was high on drugs and in possession of crack cocaine. chavez is now being housed here at the main jail. here is video of 33-year-old chavez being walked out of the duplex in south san jose around 8:30 last night. sheriff's officials had been at the home on coy drive near oak ridge high school for seven hours. they learned one of chavez's friends lived there. they were trying to get him to come out of the house. they deployed tear gas. they entered and ultimately found chavez in a room. >> a female residence, carla fernandez, was also arrested for resisting and obstructing an investigation, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being an accessory to chavez's escape. >> reporter: investigators say there may be more arrests if they determine that others were helping to hide chavez. 24 hours before the a

janine dela vega has been out there all morning. it is the latest information? >> they still have the road blocked off it happened right in front of a mobil gas station. this is right across the street from a 7-eleven on winchester and we just spoke with the clerk and he told us that he had heard one gunshot. he said he didn't see anyone running or driving away but it is frightening because he said it was so close to him. police were called here near hamilton just before midnight and found a man on the ground at the mobil gas station suffering from a gunshot wound. a man at the scene were identified himself as a stepfather says he was 18. they say that he was shot in the head and he died at the hospital. they say that the gas station was open at the time and they are interviewing the attendant. they've also gone door-to-door looking for anyone who may have seen or heard what happened. >> we are in the pulmonary stages of our investigation trying to find witnesses in surveillance video anything that may help us to determine what has happened out here. >> the poli
