. >>> ktvu's janine de la vega is here now with what the attorney general learned today. >> reporter:ney general eric holder came here to the campus of san jose job corp. this is where hundreds of at risk teenagers and young adults come to school to learn a trade. some of them are former gang members. angel miranda linarez never thought he would be giving a tour of his school to the attorney general. the 16-year-old says he used to be involved in gangs but is in school now going to job corp. >> i'm glad i came here. because before i was setting an example for my brothers to be in the gang lifestyle. making them think it was okay to do what they are doing. >> reporter: attorney general holder wanted to see firsthand how youth are being transformed. >> i think the approach that is being taken here in san jose is one that needs to be replicated throughout the country. >> reporter: assistant police chief says so far five of the 19 programs have partnered with the police department. holder spent the day visiting with students and hearing their stories. his experience in the classroom left

. >>> ktvu's janine de la vega is live in napa now with more on what happened, janine. >> reporter: frank a hospital spokesperson is not releasing much information but she did confirm that one patient allegedly assaulted another patient. we're told by staff that the victim is in a coma an on a ventilator and the attacker is behind bars. 31-year-old victor mandujano was booked in for battery. patients inside the state hospital say last night he attacked one of his roommates described as a frail man in his 60s who was a new patient. >> he just started pounding on him, pounding him to a bloody pulp. to where he they didn't even know who the person was when they walked in and found him. >> reporter: sources inside the hospital say the attack happened in the unit that holds the most acute mental patients who are considered highly dangerous. patients told them that mandujano had told them for a while that he's tormented by voices in his head that tell him to harm others. the hospital is investigating the incident. earlier this week the department of mental health told ktvu it is hiring 35 staff

. >>> now let's go to janine de la vega to find out what's happening to the victims and more on this difficult rescue process. >> reporter: the three victims that were involved in that accident, they are here at stanford. they arrived by air on that helicopter, the helepad that you see behind me. the chp says the accident happened in such a remote area that you heard john mention. it took over an hour and a half before the helicopter took off from the scene. two others suffered minor injuries were transported by ambulance. they were all employees of a contractor company that did work for the state peninsula district. >> we are all concerned about this, and we're working very cooperatively the chp to find out what happened and also like i say our thoughts are with the families in this situation. >>> the chp does not want to release the name of the contracted company until they notify the families. the chp has told us that they do know of at least one person out of the seven involved in the accident did not receive any injuries at all. reporting live from palo alto, janine de la vega.

ktvu's janine de la vega talked to investigators about the explosion that critically burned three people. >> she ran out and made her way to the grass. it seemed like a large bang and stick of dynamite went off for something. >> reporter: livermore police say after 5:00 yesterday evening there was an explosion in one of the first-floor apartments in this complex. it was so powerful that it blew out the windows and caused part of the porch to rip apart. neighbors were horrified by what they saw. >> the two guys were sitting on the curb and their skin was just peeled off and one guy as hand was gone and the girl was dully sitting out here on the grass just screaming with her cloths half off, like melted off. >> reporter: police and firefighters had the victims airlifted to the hospital and today police treated the apartment as a crime scene. they packed the victims' clothing in bag as evidence and they are calling it suspicious. >> you don't usually have an explosion of this type that occurs inside an apartment short of a natural gas leak or something like that. and it does not appear ther
