ktvu's janine de la vega has been talking to witnesses. she joins us live from the scene of the tragedy. janine? >> reporter: right now, investigators are inside the home. you can see one of the firefighters here. they've -- coming outside. they've been inside looking around at all of the charred debris. some of it is still left here on the front yard. the house is severely destroyed. we're hearing that the fire may have started in one of the bedrooms. investigators say they think the cause may be electrical. a husband and a wife were sleeping and at about 1:00 a.m., they woke up to the smell of smoke and saw flames in the front bedroom of the house located on townsend avenue. they grabbed a five extinguisher. but it didn't work. they escaped. when firefighters arrives, flames were shooting out of the window. the elderly woman was in bed. she's wheelchair bound. firefighters had to go through the flames and rescue her. they performed cpr but were unable to resuscitate her. >> i thought, wow. everybody got out. that kind of relieved me. two
