ktvu janine de la vega is talking to investigators at the crime scene. j phone, what have you learned so far. >> reporter: police have taken those two people back to the police station. they are talking to them. they think they have information in relation to this homicide. they broke off 15th street here close to 101 and oakland road. this is where the woman's body was found and crime scene technicians and detectives are trying to piece together what happened. what police do know this woman was assaulted. they received a 911 call at around 2:30 a.m.. there was an unresponsive person lying on 15th street. they found a woman face down suffering from blunt force trauma. police searched the area for evidence. we on receiverred them talking to two people who were eventually handcuffed an taken away by officers. police are not calling them suspects. they have been called persons of interest. >> we are actively con vassing and still trying to gather evidence. >> but you believe you have two of the people involved. >> we have people of interest that have been t

ktvu's janine de la vega joins us live from palo alto where she has video of one of those attacks. janine? >> reporter: claudine, we're here in robles park. this is in the middle of the neighborhood. we're not near the foothills. this is where a body of a cat was found gutted by coyotes in the night. now, here is some surveillance video taken in palo alto from a home last fall showing a coyote with a dead cat in a neighborhood in the middle of the night. palo alto animal services says the incidents of coyotes coming into neighborhoods and killing cats has increased significantly over the past few years. in the last two weeks, animal control officers are picking up the bodies of domestic cats every day of cats in neighborhood that are not again near the foothills. >> most of the cats are owned. we get them microchipped and we notify the owners that their cat has been deceased. >> animal control officers speculate that because of the drought, the coyotes' food services may be scarce. it's driving them near homes. they recommend bringing your pets into the house at night to prevent an

ktvu's janine de la vega tells us why there was concern for the nearby creek and what they know so far about this fire. >> reporter: fire investigators rummaged through charred remains of this van in hopes of figuring out why it went up in flames. a neighbor took this picture showing what it looked like outside of the cedar apartments on union avenue at 4:00 a.m. this morning. >> i heard a loud explosion like a big bang. i opened the curtains and saw the flames. flames about 15 feet were coming out of the van. >> reporter: the flames spread to the honda and suv. the fire station is located several door downs. so firefighters responded quickly and were able to put out the fire in 15 minutes. >> one or two of the vehicles' gas tanks were affected by the fire. we had a fuel leak. don't know how much but the crews fairly quickly recognized the fact that there was fuel in the water from the firefight. >> reporter: firefighters shored up the drains and blocked the fuel from going into the los gatos creek. as a precaution, 40 residents were evacuated. they were let back inside after an hour.
