janine donaldson from our baltimore affiliate has the story. >> reporter: a mama deer circling this storm drain caught the attention of neighbors nearby and what happens next, one neighbor says, was simply -- >> it was at first heart wrenching. and i was holding back all of my tears, and when i actually, you know, realized that i was videoing something pretty spectacular, it felt heartwarming >> reporter: what began as curiosity for some neighbors turned into a night of collective community joy >> so, around 9:00 at night someone, a mom and her son who was riding a bike saw a mama deer walking around the storm drain. and the mama deer was looking like she was in a bit of distress, and she kept looking in and then walking away >> reporter: while walking her dog with her husband started filming, three fire trucks pulled up. it wasn't a fire or crash but a fawn stuck in a storm drain. the caller, a volunteer dispatcher who lives nearby. >> about six or seven firefighters come out, and they bring their tools to open up this grate and one of the firefighters decides to descend into the storm d
