moskowitz? how do i call you? >> chris, you can call me jared. title is representative. >> representative moskowitz, i believe in titles. i want to give yours. let me ask you about this whole thing. what do you think is going to happen down there? we had a vote the other day in tallahassee where even to bring up a ban on the assault weapon down there lost 2-1 just to bring it up. what do you make of that? that's not a good sign for doing flig anything about this rifle that did the killing the other day, used to kill? >> listen, that was a procedural vote. anytime you try to bring up a procedural vote and overrule the speaker who made a decision that vote will go down, the topic could have been puppies. obviously on guns we fell 40 votes shy of the two-thirds needed. we only have 41 democratic members, vastly outnumbered in the house. what i do believe is happening, a bill will be drafted. you'll see it released thursday or friday. it will be in committee on monday. i think you're going to see a massive bill that includes gun control first. it's g

joining me is jared moskowitz, he is a democrat who represents the parkland area, and is also a 1999 graduate of stoneman douglas high school. good to see you. so, do you support the governor's proposals? is it enough? >> well, the governor' proposal's actually not what's going to be in front of us on monday. the house and the senate have a slight variation of that proposal which adds some additional components like waiting periods and potentially better background checks along with better baker act language. and so what i would say is the governor's off to a good start, but i think the proposal falls short slightly of what parents, my constituents and floridians who were recently polls want to see. we'll continue to fight to make that bill better. at the end of the day, when that bill hits the floor, we've got to do something. we cannot come home with nothing for these parents. >> what are the things you and parents in that area want to see? >> well, i mean, obviously, we want to see a ban of assault rifles. we're happy they're raising the age to 21. we're happy you're not going to

jared moskowitz joins me me now. he the broad from marjory stoneman douglas high school. congressman, thank you very much for joining us. i was just talking about how these kids are trying to flatten out the issue, make it so it's not just about republicans, not just about democrats, not just about what lawmakers are doing, but changing the culture. do you think that that's the best strategy? what do you think should be done? >> it's by far the best strategy. these students are the difference. they are the reason why there will be bills coming forward that will be heard that will change the conversation in the state of florida. something that hasn't happened in 20 years. i've been saying to myself that we have to look at this as parents, not as democrats or republicans. i remind myself of a slogan, parents over party. that's really what we should be doing here. it would be nice if we approached all issues the same way we're approaching this as common people with a common goal with a common purpose. you would think in a country with the most powerful military and the best

florida state representative jared moskowitz. thank you for coming. you've lived close to this. here's the question, why does an 18-year-old, that's you you have to in florida, be able to walk into a gunshop and buy an ar-15 and all the ammo magazines you need to go out and do what the gun is designed for, mass shooting of human beings quickly? why is that so easy to do in the united states? your thoughts, legally. >> i think that the more broad question here is how do we keep guns out of schools. that is something that for the past five years, i've been dealing with on very obviously a firsthand basis. we see this happen time and time and time again. the bigger issue is how to stop this in general with any type of weapon. the fact is we are just over 24 hours out from this terrible tragedy and are still learning all the information. you know, but i think getting back to the bakes here and trying to figure out specifically what acts can be taken, what legislation can be proposed to stop all incidents like this regardless of the type of firearm used. >> let me ask you about the f

want to bring in democratic state representative jared moskowitz, he represents this part of florida.ve, i should say. this is personal for you. you have kids in preschool here who went into lockdown during this shooting. >> yeah, the way i found out is my wife called me at 2:30 while i was on the floor of the house that she couldn't pick up other kids because the school was on lockdown. i made a couple of phone ducall to law enforcement, and they let me know there was a shooter and the news broke on tv and i told the speaker i had to leave session and i hopped a plane and came here and met the governor and attorney general and the news was still fresh. we didn't know how many victims there was, but as we have seen with all of the shootings, the numbers started at two and then went higher and now we know it is 17. and we're broken. >> one victim is too many. one victim is too many. there are a number of questions now, questions that need to be asked. i'm not suggesting the answers are easy. many republican lawmakers will not join us now to face these questions. rex tillerson, the secr
