jason, good morning. boy, what pay difference a day makes. >> reporter: good morning, sydnie. good morning, frank. it has been just an absolutely rough week on wall street all because of the nuclear crisis in japan. the dow lost 280 points on tuesday and wednesday but we are gaining some back today because of hopes that perhaps the sea water dropping operation on the fukushima plant will help cool down the reactors. and we are also getting positive news on the domestic economic front. weekly jobs claims fell 16,000 last week to 385,000. and the four-week average was just a little bit higher at 386,000. the lowest it's been in almost three years. that average shows that we are seeing hiring take place in the economy, absolutely key and it is a lag behind other economic indicators. but we are also paying more for things. the consumer price index rose last month by a .5%. that was its biggest gain in a year and a half. blame pump prices for that gas cost, 4.7% more last month. food costs were also up but not nearly as much as they were on the wholesale side. that shows that groce
