yeah jason, right? the one thing that i would add about conclusions having been in ap exam reader more times than i can remember now is that the conclusion is really an important place for students to as jason said summarize their argument restate their thesis. there's a whole rubric point out of six or seven for just that one or two sentence statement in the introduction and because students yes, they're really building this essay on the fly there. they don't have you know very much time to outline this and think ahead of time. they're they're kind of writing as they go and so i've read a good number of essays where i read the opening paragraph and the thesis isn't quite there. it's a little bit confused. it's off focus, but as students start building out their essay in their body paragraphs, they figure it out and then they get to the conclusion. they restate their thesis and they get that point. so if there if time allows, i definitely encourage a conclusion so that students can restate a thesis and

[ laughter ] >> well, good grammar's always helpful. but when you look at the rubric, the rubric doesn't have any points for good grammar. i tell my students, one of the advantages of history versus, say, an ap english exam, is we're focused a little bit more on the content. and keep in mind that these are timed. so, in essence, these are rough drafts. so have as good of a grammar as you can, but there are no points deducted, as long as a reader can understand what's being said, you'll get full credit. so focus on the content and focus on what college board calls the historical thinking and reasoning skills. make sure as you answer an essay, a dbq or an leq, that you're looking at the rubric which is summarized for students in the bulleted directions, and you're using that as a checklist to attack that essay and to accomplish all of those tasks. so don't worry about the grammar. do your best. you'll be fine. >> now
