so you have put all that together, jason. republicans best chance to win in the commonwealth of virginia? >> it is pretty much it. brian, there are still operating off of all census information. we've had a lot of problematic issues with this recent sentences. when the new information comes out it will be even harder for republicans to win statewide in the state of virginia. youngkin is riding a wave of being an individually rich guy and still being able to sort of hide the overreach system of these education issues to make himself competitive in this race. but i think when we look at biden, the important thing to take into consideration is that joe biden has accomplished thing. he has the vaccine rollout, he passed massive bills to sort of secure peoples employment and funding and everything else. he has done some good things. he ended the war in afghanistan. we haven't even given him credit for that, that ended just about two months ago. but the problem is, joe biden has not been as aggressive on the things that the public

next i'd like to turn to jason. i know you have studied elections and congress, and the relationship between the two and how ballot structures and the rest might impact the way an elected official acts. i am curious for your thoughts. we have about a five minute window to answer the question, and it is a big one. do think it is possible under current electoral system that we can assure consistent consent from electoral lists -- electoral losers, or do we need to make changes? jason: there are some changes we can make. the point that will probably have the most impact would be to move to a system where the person administering the election is not on the ballot. you talked about the georgia gubernatorial race. it is a clear conflict of interest to have a candidate for an office administering the election. the person could have the purest of intentions, but it is going to look at no matter what you do. we couldn't should probably do more nonpartisan election administration. we need to develop better candidate norms. se

jason: there are a few different pieces.f you are looking personal income and spending, those numbers will be important especially after the strong retail sales number we saw for october. jobless claims will be important to watch. we saw a new record lows for initial claims and continuing claims since the start of the pandemic. that is a good sign because if the fed needs to accelerate the process of tapering its qe program, something we expect at the next decision on december 15, the jobs situation will need to be in a good place. the other thing we will see this week is more fed members socializing that idea of a more rapid qe paper. we heard from a couple of different fed members last week and i think we will hear from more in the next week or twl. if that idea gets out there and is repeatedly underscored, that will increase the probability that the tapering announced in december will be quicker than the pace announced in early november. >> we are also hearing reports that japan and the u.s. are planning a joint strategic

let's go to cnn's jason carroll outside of the courthouse for us.thing that's just happened. >> reporter: all right, well, just to backtrack a little bit, alisyn, as you know, this is a civil trial, not a criminal trial, and what we have here is a situation where plaintiffs were claiming, and there are nine plaintiffs, who were injured that day during the unite the right rally, that 17 defendants, some of them individuals, some of them hate groups, conspired to commit acts of violence. and that conspiracy was based on racial hatred. and so what they were claiming here in court and arguing during this trial is that this was a conspiracy, and so there were six claims that jurors were looking at, two of the most serious claims, the first one being conspiring to commit ri racially-motivated violence. the second claim, failing to prevent that conspiracy. jurors could not reach a unanimous decision. they were deadlocked. we have just learned, on both of those two claims. now, there were four more claims in addition to that. i'm just going to outline those
