. >> our financial reporter jason brooks joining us now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ab anne, and kenny. verizon seems to have settlemented its role as leading contender. that was the case when yahoo started this process. verizon submitted a $3 billion bid for the web business, and verizon doesn't want yahoo's real estate or patents which yahoo believes is worth another $1 billion. and pge capital is believed to have snuck in a bid before the second round ended. but the bidding is not over. yahoo is expected to have one more round and is hoping to have between $4 and $8 billion but the verizon bid is well below that and yahoo shares are moving slightly lower. and similar web did a survey in the first quarter of social media apps and found lower usage for the four main sites, facebook, twitter, snapchat, and facebook-owned instagram. usage was down in every country. germany was an exception, and fewer people are installing them on the mobile devices leaving some to wonder if social media is at the peak moment. the stock market,

. >> joining us now is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. >> reporter: good morning.news for workers at see gate. the cupertino hard disk drive maker an storage specialist seagate will cut 1600 jobs worldwide. that works out to 3% of its total workforce. seagate has been hit hard by the slowdown in the pc industry and it's making this move to make up for those weaker sales. revenue in its last quarter was down 22% from the year earlier. sharing are moving lower on the news. initial jobless claims were up 10,000 to $268,000. the junior, report comes out next week -- june jobs report comes out next week. the federal reserve will see whether there's better job growth after the weak gain in may. >>> a big deal in the entertainment industry. film and tv studio lionsgate picks up the stars network for $4.4 billion. lionsgate is behind hungers games around "orange is the new black" and also owns encore and behind "hunger games." the dow was up over 550 points the past two days. not bad after the "brexit" sell- off that we saw on friday and monday. on the big board: coming up

kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks reports. >> reporter: news on the job market not so good a four-week winning streak snapped as the labor department reports that initial jobless claims was up 13,000. the four-week average was down but climbs are in an area that would suggest job growth. of course in may we only saw a gain of 38,000 jobs according to the labor department. and that certainly played a part in the federal reserve's deciding not to raise interest rates at its meeting yesterday. another key factor for the u.s. economy is inflation. it remains low. according to labor, consumer inflation rose two-tenths of a percent in may. that mainly came from higher pump prices and also rent which of course is no surprise to anybody who rents in the bay area but across the country, rents were up 3.4% over the past 12 months. that was the biggest gain in over nine years. volkswagen is trying to get beyond that diesel emissions scandal that's dogged it since last september. the company's ceo says it's going to develop up to 30 different electric vehicle models by 2025. it plans t

coming up an update from kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. ,, regarding jobs in the u-s. us now... k-c-b-s r financial reporter jason br. >>> some encouraging news this morning regarding jobs in the u.s. joining us now kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. >> reporter: good morning. definitely some good news for the job market as unemployment claims continue to head lower. the labor department says initial claims were down by 1,000 to 267,000. they have been below 300,000 now for 65 straight weeks. that's the longest streak like this since 1973. also adp says the private sector added 173,000 jobs in may. that's in line with expectations and what economists expect to see from the labor department when it delivers its monthly report tomorrow. that report will be key as the fed meets in a couple of weeks deciding whether or not to raise interest rates. if we do see another beg job gain, that could push the fed closer to making that decision. the ridesharing business is a big race for cash these days. uber raised $3.5 billion from saudi arabia. that's one of the bigges

"salesforce" says it will allow it to expands its own e- commerce business ating $100 million in revenue a year to its business. >> on tesla, the company had a meeting, elon musk hinted that the future modal 3 may not allow owners to have supercharge access. that network allows owners to charge up cars for 30 minutes quicker than home charging stations. up until now all tesla owners had the free service. the model free is half the price of the model s and to make that work the company may have to charge for supercharging stations -- unless those owners buy a special package that would include free charging. shares of tesla are lower today along with the broader market. let's go to the big board and see how we're doing. we had a mixed session yesterday. not so hot today. dow down by 110. nas

joining us now is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks.ood morning. >> reporter: good morning, kenny and michelle. tesla is calling those claims preposterous. the national highway traffic safety administration says it's investigating claims of potential problems with the suspension on the model s. says it wants to hear back from owners about that. it all stems from a blog, an auto blog, that claimed tesla paid half the repair bills for owner in exchange for a goodwill agreement maintaining confidentiality in the matter. tesla says it's ludicrous that any of that existed and said there are no problems with its suspension. auto analysts say tesla can get into more of these issues as it sells more cars. stock in the company is lower today. also urban outfitters sending a chill through the markets once again lowering its forecast. its shares are down 7%. retail has been on a rough run for months. the stock market heading quite a bit lower in the early going. let's check it. dow down more than 120. nasdaq down 50. s&p is lower by 17. kenny and

joining us now is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks.morning. >> reporter: good morning. not the news we want to wake up to but unfortunately, yet another hack attack. this one involving to noodles -- the noodles restaurant change hackers installing malware at the payment terminals across the country. more than two dozen states impact including california with a half dozen locations around the bay area listed by the company as places that might have been have been hacked between february and june. that would include two locations in san francisco, one in concord, another in santa clara, cupertino, and vacaville. noodles isn't saying how many accounts were impacted but says that if you used a card at those location, check your accounts. >>> consumer spending is on the rise. the commerce department reports that in may, it was up 4/10ths of a percent. not quite as strong as april but it was the second straight gain and solid showing overall. wage growth still pretty weak and savings was down a bit from the prior month. stock market looking
