lets begin our debate coverage with cnn's jason carol, how is it looking, jason? >> well, they have just been testing some of the music here and getting some practice sessions in. the kacandidates have been practicing in. different way to take trump, for example, not following the traditional path or not holding mock debates as we have seen candidates do in the past. his adviser is saying what he want to do is review his issues with his advisers. the candidate is not going to be robotic and scripted and he will be nimble and resilience. >> clinton is following a traditional path. she had been holding mock debates and working late in the night last night and practicing with one of her long time adviser, long time mate, he's known for having a combat style. you can imagine both campaigns going forward and manage expectations ahead of tonight. >> i am very concerned that donald trump will be graded on a curve just because he does not fly off the handle in the middle of this debate dos not mean he's prepared for being the president of the united states. >> that's pret

jason and carol is inside the debate hall. lets speak in with jason. show us the stage and what's going to go down tonight, jason. >> well, carol, you mentioned the super bowl, i guess we can call this the super bowl of politics. the stage is set behind me. there is much anticipation. america's direction achieving prosperity and securing america. there is been a lot of talk of details. lets go over some of them for you. the debate will last about 90 minute and broken into six 15 minute segments. there is a lot of talk about some of the rules involved. some of the rules were decided by mutual consensus by both campaigns. clinton's podium is stage left and trump is right. that was decided by a coin toss. clinton's podium is shorter. that's for optical reasons, she's shorter than donald trump. she's about 5' 6" and he's about 6' 2 t." who gets the first question? clinton will receive the first question and have about two-minutes to answer. trump then in turn will have two-minutes to respond. about thousands of people will be packed in to here, this hall h

first, let's get to cnn's jason carol following donald trump in iowa where the smart money says we will hear the word deplorable, jason. >> very smart money. even before i walked in here, john, i ran into a woman, she was wearing a t-shirt that said, i love deplorables. this is something that has really struck a nerve with many trump supporters who were out here in iowa. so expect donald trump to hammer home on this issue today, just like he did last night. you know, when hillary clinton made this comment what she was basically referring to are what she called a number of people who she says have racist or homophobic leanings who support donald trump, people like david duke, former head of the kkk. just a little earlier this morning, mike pence was asked about this very same issue and whether or not he thought david duke was deplorable. he said he wasn't into name calling. listen ton how he responded to the question. >> donald trump and i have denounced david duke repeatedly. we have said that we do not want his support and we do not want his support of the people who think like him. ye

. >> so, jason, is it even possible for donald trump to fire his generals or fire the generals that are in place now and replace them all with his handpicked generals? >> oh, sure, carol, thanks for the question and invite. every administration goes through a process where the, you know, senior officers either matriculate or if they have policy disagreements with the administration, find other places. but i would agree with scott man's assessment. one, we're going to want to see an approach here pretty soon. but to lay out a detailed plan for the -- you know, for the defeat of isis, that's a big topic, frankly, it's going to take generals that any president is going to have to trust and then again promote and matriculate up. along with that, i would also say as scott mann did, we have been at war for 15 years now. when you talk about reducing generals to rubble, i think we all get a sense of the wisdom or the judgment that our current leadership and even previous leadership has shown. we haven't been able to conclude this war with any positive result. i think that's what he means. i think we're looking for great leadership. it has to come from this type of a place. st
