jason coffman, we heard from him. his son cody is not coming home. some victims have been identified including sergeant ron helus, a 29-year law enforcement veteran. 29 years as a law enforcement veteran. he owned a personal gun safety company where he taught firearms safety. live pictures we are following a procession as sergeant helus's is moved from the hospital to the medical examiner's office. outside the bar where the shooter was. what have you learned about him? >> reporter: well, he was 28 years old. he lived in the local area and he was a u.s. marine corps veteran. served for 4.5 years and did one tour in afghanistan in 2010, 2011. he was an infantry machine gunner. from eyewitnesss he was wearing all black and know from authorities that he was armed with a glock 45 with an extended magazine. he shot the security guard outside and walked in and shot the pate republicans arons and e grill. sergeant helus was hitting in his cruiser when the call came in, on the phone with his wife. he was here within minutes. he and a highway patrolman decided

coffman. too bad, mike. jasonmore on that the welcome now republican congressman carlos curbelo of florida. too bad, carlos may have been understood. what was your reaction to that now that you've had time to process? rep. curbelo: i really don't think the president understands what happened in the midterms, especially not in suburban america. the types of districts i have been able to represent. i was the top-performing republican in my district, getting just over 49% and losing a pretty close race. governor scott got about 44.5%. governor-elect the santos -- desantis got about 44.5%. most appreciated i had my own brand and i was someone, whether the president has been trump or obama, held them accountable, worked with them when they were doing things that were good for my community in the country, and opposed them when i needed to. jason: let's talk about where the party goes from here. as you pointed out, it was a different kind of election. i spoke with eric cantor last week. he was talking about this idea tha

told that colorado 6 district, that our decision desk is calling that for jason crow, the democratic challenger against mike coffmans one of the districts we can show you. i'm going to sound lucky a broken record here. hillary clinton republican-held district. clinton won this district outside denver by a nine-point margin in 2016 through september into october. there had been multiple polls in this district showing coffman running pretty far behind. republicans pulled out their national financial support, at one point. this an expected development. but again, this speaks to one of the patterns we're seeing tonight. republicans in trump country seem to be digging in. the voters who didn't vote for trump in 2016 seem to be digging in against his party now down ballot. if you go back to our list here of pickups, let's see if it's in there we expect this to turn blue. i can't even make it through that. we'll be one, two, three, four now. we'll have four districts turned blue, and they're all clinton districts. >> that mike coffman district has been thinking they've been able to get that for the last two or three cycle

jason crow. crow won his election on tuesday night, in part because of his stance on gun control. his republican opponent, cumbent congressman mike coffman, on the other hand, was a top recipient of n.r.a. donations. the district crow will now represent is the site of the aurora, colodo mass shooting 2012. congressman-elect jason crow rsins me now. of all, congratulations on your win, jason crow. given what has happened just overnight in california and given the fact that gun violence was part of your campaign, you must have thought something about what happened last night. >> yes. the pace of these mass shootings are accelerating. it's happening more and more. we seeet to beng desensitized to it. pu're going to continue to back. i've made this a part of my campaign because i'm not willing to sit back and let this become a new normal. this isn't okay for anybody. i have young children and there wasn't a week at the we want by on the campaign when teachers and parents didn't come to me and express concern about this issue. why was it important for you to talk about? >> well, i'm a first-time candidate. i had never run before. i'm a. fathe
