gosh commissioners, my name is jason elliott -- >> commissioners, my name is jason elliott from the -- it started as a discussion with the director and with chris, so appreciation to them for months and months ago, coming to us with an idea. the charter amendment that you are considering today and what you have in your blinders is, in principle, what i would like to discuss today. a few minutes ago, we received potential amendments that we are considering making. if i can, we can talk a little bit more conceptually about the idea as opposed to the specific line by line. we are moving away from the exact wording of what is in the packets. but just to take a step back, the idea here that the mayor made clear in his inaugural address yesterday morning, the number one priority is jobs for all people in san francisco. to that extent, having a smart economic development policy, and innovation corridor through the day and through central market, we have tremendous amount of investments that we are making a citywide. simply put, city government should be a partner in this to create these jobs

jason elliott, from the mayor's office. thank you for giving us this opportunity to discuss the city's vision for high-speed rail. the mayor is committed to bringing it to san francisco at the earliest possible date. i will not deliver his support to much, but when he was in washington a couple of weeks ago, this was a topic of conversation that he brought very frequently. his support is strong and unwavering. this is the original northern terminus, as promised to the voters. it is the first statewide i still work -- high-speed rail project. this is actually broken ground and underactive construction. trans day represents a real commitment from the federal government and local partners to make high-speed rail a reality. as you mentioned, we are all grateful for the strong support. this past weekend he made some more reaffirming comments. this is a substantial investment in the future of california. ultimately, the mayor feels that this needs to get built now or in the future. not so much because of detractors in the city, b

jason elliott from the mayor's office. submission by the mayor has provoked quite a bit of discussion around how to protect jobs and one of the things we heard most clearly which resonated with the mayor is it is not just about the number but the quality of those jobs. that is insightful -- and insightful thing to focus on and something we will want to look at and consider as we move forward. to get to the point, because of the very good dialogue that started because of this, we have been meeting with partners in the business community and labor to discuss how to accomplish the shared goals. the mayor would like to request this item that is before you today as amended be continued to the call of the chair. we will not be on the june ballot for sure. and we will be in -- to come back for november or not. it is the preference as we remains. we have heard this from a number of supervisors especially from the three of you but your colleagues. how do we find a way to involve the voices of workers who stand to lose their jobs an
