in the bay area for 20 month old mackay, police find him safe and arrest his father, 30-year-old jason lamb. lamb is accused of violating a custody agreement and abducting his son. the boy's mother went to the police station thursday night at 5:30 to report her son missing telling police lamb didn't show up with the boy as the court required. >> the mother and the father are in joint custody of the child. when the father did not come back with the child, the mother went and obtained new custodial stat us from the court. >> reporter: the district attorney's office worked with the chp to activate a amber alert when it learned lamb was acting erratically. >> we found out disturbing information about the father that gave us concern at which time we initiated an amber alert. >> reporter: the amber alert started in the bay area just after 2:00. they found security video from inside a store thursday showing lamb pushing the boy in a shopping cart. then at 5:00 a pinning from lamb's cell phone showed the pair was in los angeles. the chp expanded the am about alert to southern california. police loc

when the child's mother came to the tara bell police station to report that the father 30-year-old jason lamb had not shown up to drop off their baby son makai at the time he was supposed to. they captured an image of a father and son at a business in menlo park. they didn't specify how long that image was taken. the two have joint custody. after learning new information, the d.a.'s office got involved. reports from the california highway patrol indicated lamb might have been contemplating suicide. >> sometime today we found out disturbing information regarding the father that really gave us concern at which time we initiated an amber alert. >> but for the public out there, if you see this child, if you see this person, if you see this vehicle, please contact 911 so we can bring this child back to the loving arms of his mother. >> reporter: this is the car the authorities are looking for, a tan toyota corolla, license plate 5 sey 238. if you see the car or mr. lamb and his son, they ask that you call 911 rather than trying to intervene yourself. we'll bring you more information as we know it.
