jason smith thank you ever so much. i don't get this. you tell me. back decades and decades first of all. has there ever been two reconciliation bills in the same year? >> well i can tell you in the last 25 years, larry, there have not been two reconciliation bills that have been signed into law in the same year. back in 1997, you had two reconciliation bills signed into law when newt gingrich was there but it was also a point when they had a majority of 30-40 republicans in the house of representatives we have a 219 to 215 majority. larry: right so it's obviously not there. the other thing that i would say to you, jason. i don't think it's desirable to postpone the trump tax cuts. i mean, his working class coalition, blacks, browns, asian, whites, kids, you know? those folks want a big raise in take home pay. they lost 4% of it during the biden years. trump delivered 9% when he was president. they want that, and one way to get it is to cut their taxes, and i think we should be talking about that and we should be launching what i call the blue collar

. >> ashley: we'll see what happens, house ways and means committee chair, jason smith is pushing for on border funding. congress needs to act swiftly to take this threat of tax hike off the table and give american people assure >> ainsley: relief has arrived. your thoughts on this and will it get pushed through? >> there are a lot of arguments on either side of this. tax first or border? to me, what is important is speed at which all of this is done and border is part of this, tax cut, extension of trump's tax cuts are important. house and senate need to collaborate and work together to come up with a blueprint that gives us all wins we possible can get to show the american people we're serious about governing. doesn't matter if the chicken or egg comes first. house and senate need to collaborate and there are thorny issues in the house we need to smooth out and i'm confident in chairman smith's ability to navigate the waters and see what the senate does. >> todd: that is the goal. i look at this, congress has been trying to solve immigration for decades, if i'm you guys and i'm not,

jason smith is a powerful figure in the house republican conference.ns chairman. and senator thune is the majority leader. if they can degree on this and the measures they plan on the tax cuts and sweeping immigration reform that is a sign of what are not able to agree on, considering they're not even leading yet. is not even january. >> in 2017, donald trump could not get a lot done because of the gop insighting. >> is a government shutdown looming. is there any chance that the lights could go off? >> now, everyone i've talked to the past couple days on capitol hill, really don't want a shutdown. she don't want to be taken away from their families on christmas. funding is set to run out on december 20th. but the negotiations on the top line number for disaster funding. that disaster aid supplemental funding bill that is a priority for the white house and for a lot of lawmakers that have seen their state's hit by devastating hurricanes, i'm talking what happened with hurricane helene and the maui fires in hawaii. they would like to see a lot of money p

know what's been decided yet and kind of sounds like two bills and we've never had two bills and jason smithghs and means chair was on this show and said it was a reckless proposal. what do you think, steve more? >> i just got back from the dentist and had come work, i'm not drinking. this cost $4 trillion to make the tax cuts permanent and talking about t larry. look at first six years of this tax cut, revenues come in higher and i think we have to have the right baseline. we cannot bail on this. trump has a voter mandate to make the trump tax cuts a 2,000 to 3,000 tax increase and every family and i think let's go forward with this first and he has a mandate to touchdown catch do it and these other things very important and going to get this done in the first 100 or 150 days. larry: he's so popular and mr. trump so popular right now and strike while the iron is hot. and i don't see qataris tax cuts can't be in the first reconciliation bill and original idea was a very sizable reconciliation bill. and i'm just worried there's not enough tax cut advocates in the upper echelon of this adminis

guest: jason smith and i are good friends and he is a very clever man.hen he talked about there was the fact that they elected to make permanent those tax cuts that benefit corporations and were they to renew them, that would add $4.6 trillion to the deficit and what they allowed to expire where those provisions that helped families. i just want to say that the standard deduction helped a lot of families but at the same time doubling the standard deduction of people who lost tax deductions that they had, lost other benefits, and again, those tax cuts for small businesses, you take small business, see you have a small business that had a net income of $100,000, that tax cut was about $2000, as opposed to the millions of dollars that larger corporations receive. there definitely was no equity. and the other thing is that the $4.6 trillion of tax cuts that jason smith has the we needed to renew would be added to the deficit and the joint committee on taxation, the federal reserve board, other economists said not a single penny of the tax cuts that we have g
