that's instruct sieve last night i had a conversation with historian timothy snyder and philosopher jason stanley. we're talking about fascism. and one of the things, the most salient things you found in authoritarian regimes across the board was this leader as paternity figure. the father figure of the state, exactly. and so listening to kanye articulate that was really kind of shocking and frightening in this particular way. and, of course, it's not unusual. we know that this is the dynamic that's happening, but it is still nonetheless striking when you hear it so succinctly articulated. and to brittany's point of saying that kanye west wants to run for president, i remember a time when we would laugh at someone like that and say it was impossible. >> totally. >> but now we're in such a bizarre twilight zone kind of reality, who knows what actually could happen in this country. >> and also, to your point about the sort of fascism or authoritarianism, it strikes me kanye likes thes threat ticks of it. he is very explicit. i like the maga hat. it's esthetically driven for him is part of the issue

joining us now, yale professor jason stanley.r the past decade. his new book entitled "how fascism work" it's a breakdown of fascist ideology and its prominence on the global stage. welcome to the show. good to have you on board this morning. >> thank you very much. >> so what are we seeing right now here with rough and the occupation of america. you have people like former secretary of state madeleine albright pointedly saying this is how it begins. how would you see it? >> well, my work is about fascist politics and fascist propaganda. i don't think there is any doubt we are seeing fascist tactics being employed. hyper nationalism. power, loyalty, fear of the other. i explained fascism to my 3-year-old as in fascism, there is one big daddy and i see where i think we are seeing that kind of politics all across the world and here in the occupation as well. >> well, we certainly aren't seeing, of course a move towards fascism. yet, as far as the government goes here, but there is no doubt that your one big daddy theory for 3-year-
