jason thomas, the director of research at the carlyle group.imm: still ahead on the market day, we are looking at the s&p 500 continuing its rally. more, next. ♪ pimm: welcome back to the bloomberg "market day." i am pimm fox. some markets are recouping of yesterday's losses with some of the worst performers coming back to check. here is julie hyman. bige: indeed we are seeing gains, the biggest we have seen all year for the major averages, but not making up for yesterday, and certainly not making up for the past several days as we had the correction in the major averages. in terms of the individual movers, you mentioned best buy. i want to reiterate what we surely, that the turnaround is happening as not just a result of cost cutting, but revenue growth picking up. that is something investors have been looking for. he also talked about apple demand saying that the apple watch will be sold in all stores by the end of september. that apple watch demand has been strong. that is also helping to contribute to the gains that we are seeing in apple.

let's bring in jason thomas, the managing director and director of research at the carlisle group. back this morning. one of the questions we haven't explored about china is the systemic risk, jason, to the banking system and what really happens from here and whether there is really a systemic risk beyond just the broader questions about the economy. >> the systemic risk in china is a key concern and the reason they decided to intervene in the equity market. there was a five fold run up in energy credit that helped fuel the boon. there is a legitimate concern that too precipitous a drop could lead to losses on those loans, margin calls that could erupt into a more systemic crisis. the initial response had been to stem the declines so as to take that risk off the table. i think that the scale of over valuation was such that chinese authorities begrudgingly came to the conclusion that these resources could be better spent elsewhere creating systemic safeguards. >> when you think about the shadow banking system, michelle, and people talk about the money market business. >> sure. >> whe

jenna: thomas, i'm curious, in this country we're talking about jason quite a bit, our viewers know hise, they know the hashtag freejason on twitter as well. inside iran does your average iranian know about jason's story? is there any pressure at all from the public there about his plight? >> well, for a very long time people actually didn't know about his story, but in recent weeks i haven't been able to go out, go in taxis, in buses n coffeeshops and have people come up to me and say, hey, are you a journalist? what's up with this jason guy? why aren't they releasing him? so there is this slow movement of people understanding what's going on. of course, iranians are overall very happy with the nuclear deal, and they want this outstanding issue with the united states, the issue of jason rezaian being in prison, also solved. jenna: do you think that will add pressure that we do find out his fate soon, because the public is now more involved? >> i i think while certain leaders in iran definitely try and listen to the general public, iran's judiciary which is an independent power doesn't

is it possible as well, thomas, that jason could be found guilty of a crime but still released?> it is possible. it depends on the sentence he will get. he has of course spent more than a year in prison. under iran's legal system he can be released on bail. he can be allowed to have his sentence, while under sort of a house arrest, which would mean that he would stay at home. and it could also be that he is pardoned maybe by possibly higher authority than the judge just mentioned. so, everything is possible. and again, i think it has a lot to do with the, you know, the relations or lack of relations between iran and the u.s. jenna: quickly, thomas, will we get a head's up or that we'll find out whether there is verdict or not? >> legally there must be something within a week or announcement after new trial date. that will be the heads up. jenna: we'll see what happens. jason i know is also a friend. we appreciate your ink sight as always. thomas, we appreciate it. jon: possible conviction after crime for practicing journalism, unbelievable. jenna: exactly. jon: search for two bo
