jay korff is live at the search for the suspect, happening right now. jay: here is what we know right now -- the focus of the homicide investigation is the housing complex behind me on walters lane in district heights. the police say the victim was assaulted here, but here is where the story takes a bizarre twist. according to authorities, at 6:20 this evening, they found the victim in or near a car that had actually pulled up to the maryland state police barracks, about a mile or so down the road. they went to help this man, who was in grave condition. a short time later, he was pronounced dead. a lot to work through, trying to figure out how this person -- if he drove himself to the barracks, if somebody else drove him and fled. they are trying to piece that together. detectives have swarmed the scene, asking a lot of questions, trying to figure out what is going on. at this point, no suspect and name has not been revealed. jay korff, abc 7 news. leon: stay with abc 7 for latebreaking developments, and you can sign up for alerts on your phone at wjla.c

jay korff now live in silver spring where a vigil was held. jay: leon, a heartbreaking day and now a heartbreaking here in the briggs chaney section of montgomery county. just a short time ago, the candlelight vigil concluded. some candles still here. folks are outraged and heartbroken. >> this is not my definition of safety. jay: sadness and fear grip a neighborhood in the briggs chaney section of montgomery county. >> to come out of your door and have all this happen -- jay: wednesday afternoon, a violent confrontation and did a young life here. >> the stabbing happened outside of my bedroom window. jay: police say an argument between two males erupted outside the woodlike apartments. it ended when one fatally stabbed the other. residents say the victim's high school age. the suspect him of not much older. >> now a mother has to bury her child, and another mother has to see her child off to jail. jay: heart ache filled the parking lot. more than 100 young people gathered for a candlelight vigil to remember the victim. residents tell us someth

we told you about this case last night, and jay korff has what is next in the investigation. safe to say it is a disturbing investigation. jay: indeed, leon. the court documents released tonight eight a troubling picture. -- paint a troubling picture, an allegation leveled against the teacher. the teacher said to be very popular is now behind bars. 31-year-old giovanni pena is not teaching at oyster-adams elementary school in northeast because he is in jail with no bond. court documents say that a student came forward monday alleging when he was a fourth grader last school year that pena touched him inappropriately. he said while in class, the defendant touched his private parts on top of his clothing. the student alleges the teacher sent him a picture of his private parts on his cell phone using snap chat. the student said that pena is a close family friend. according to the criminal complaint, pena admitted to sending inappropriate pictures and that he and the student touched each other inappropriately while class was in session. tonight, we spoke with the woman who says she

jay korff spoke with a man who helped the victim man who is reliving the terrible ordeal. : he pulled into this nearby park, got out, and her desperate cries for help coming from the wooded area. >> i heard somebody faintly screaming, "help." when i went to look, this lady this girl was screaming at the top of her voice, but hardly anything was coming out. jay: he was 24 when confronted with soon after parking his car in this fairfax county complex. >> it was horrifying. i was shocked. jay: the woman barely moved. she was the victim of a savage beating and sex assault in these woods at the hands of jesse matthew. they both testified monday in matthew's criminal trial. >> it was obvious the intent was for her not to survive. that was the condition she was in. jay: outside court, one of the officers from back in 2005 praised castro. he believes that he startled the attacker and forced him to flee. mark castro says he was glad he was there that dark night nearly tenures ago for the victim, and glad to see the wheels of justice moving so many years later. >> credit to the victi

jay korff is live with the latest on the investigation. jay: a wild scene over the weekend. this is a normally peaceful area. police say the shooting occurred between eastern senior high school and this church right in the intersection. now they are searching for two female suspects. the 1700 block of east capital street in northeast washington appears idyllic on the picturesque monday. sunday morning at 4:30, violence was unleashed on a taxi driver. they don't know what ignited the confrontation but the two female drivers in their 20's argued with the cabby and then shot him. while the women fled the cabby drove a mile to 600 massachusetts avenue not far from the u.s. capitol where police found him. he was alive and conscious at the time. investigators canvassed the shooting scene to see if anyone caught the crime on our violence camera as -- on a surveillance camera as the female suspects are at large. >> this is not surprising but heartbreaking that a man has been shot. >> thomas hudson works feet away from the shooting he is concerned that the gun violence spiked in the

jay korff has what happened to the courtroom. jay: leon, powerful and chilling testimony from the victim on the stand today. also they are already insisting reasonable doubt exists from the defense. the victim traveled all the way from her home in india to testify against jesse matthew. in 2005, prosecutors say she was only steps from her fairfax county home win matthew attacked from behind. he picked her up, dragged her buyer her arm and leg into the nearby woods. he said that matthew choked her until she lost consciousness. the victim said that matthew beat and sexually assaulted her saying "i was really afraid, screaming." matthew to, "i will kill you if you scream again. let me do this and i will let you go." she also said that he tried to rape her. the judge denied a delay in the trial. authorities say that matthew's dna was found under the victim's fingernails, but the defense attorney said that could have been from unintended contact and told them there is reasonable doubt. in the end a passerby startled matthew, causing hi
