. >>> hello, i'm jc hayward. thanks for joining us. jury selection in the virginia university murder la -- murder trial could be wrapped up today. george hugly is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend yardley love. both played la crosse at uva. bruce lashan is live outside the courtroom in charlottesville. bruce. reporter: yeah, j.c., this is really a small town in the middle of a sensational national meurd. it is definitely starting to show a lot of the potential jurors have already made up their minds that george hugley, v is guilty of the brutal murder of yardley love. hugly was let in, the former la crosse player, lumbered into the courtroom. sheriff's deputies have strapped heavy weights around his ankles to slow him down if he tries to escape. hugly's family sits right behind him on one side of the courtroom, but he doesn't even seem to look at his parents. victim yardley love's family sits on the other side of the courtroom, many of them wearing pink scarves or pink coats. one potential juror turned up wearing a pink scarf too. t

i'm jc hayward. washington's smithsonian breaks ground on a new national museum. it will pay tribute to the art, life and klture of african- americans. -- culture of african- americans. first lady laura bush helped with the groundbreaking. tara mergener has more. reporter: celebrities and dignitaries including president obama gathered inside a tent on the national mall to mark the start of construction on the smith sonnian's newest edition, the national museum of african- american history and culture. >> this is a milestone moment not only for the smithsonian, but for the united states. reporter: lonnie bunch is the museum's director. >> it really has been an opportunity to make sure that my ancestors and all our ancestors are remembered. reporter: the new museum is slated to open on the national mall in 2015, but it already has a staff raising money and collecting artifacts. smithsonian officials say they already have more than 15,000 items on hand that will be part of the african-american museum's collection. they're working to find more material on popular cult

hayward. hold on to your hats. because we're raising the severe weather alert flag. there will be powerful intense winds today. howard has been watching his map closely. he's here with details, howard? >> jc, we're concerned about the mid to latter part of this afternoon and then this evening when some of the winds could really get damaging, potentially 50 if not 60-mile an hour wind gusts will be moving in. on the metro itself the wind advisories will be going into effect at 3:00. those are the lighter colored counties around oh, baltimore and washington including montgomery but you get further north and west up toward frederick and leesburg out to northern talk yore county, the blue -- fauquier county, the blue ridge, the shenandoah valley, you guys are in the wind warning and that's when we're talking about the winds potentially gusting 60 miles an hour and west of the blue ridge the wind warning starts rice now at noon. all the warnings and advisories go until midnight. here's the problem a big storm here in the upper midwest. this thing's got very deep pressure and once the front passes, that pressure gradient is going to drive these powerful winds. in the meantime, tornado watches s
