hayward. hold on to your hats. because we're raising the severe weather alert flag. there will be powerful intense winds today. howard has been watching his map closely. he's here with details, howard? >> jc, we're concerned about the mid to latter part of this afternoon and then this evening when some of the winds could really get damaging, potentially 50 if not 60-mile an hour wind gusts will be moving in. on the metro itself the wind advisories will be going into effect at 3:00. those are the lighter colored counties around oh, baltimore and washington including montgomery but you get further north and west up toward frederick and leesburg out to northern talk yore county, the blue -- fauquier county, the blue ridge, the shenandoah valley, you guys are in the wind warning and that's when we're talking about the winds potentially gusting 60 miles an hour and west of the blue ridge the wind warning starts rice now at noon. all the warnings and advisories go until midnight. here's the problem a big storm here in the upper midwest. this thing's got very deep pressure and once the front passes, that pressure gradient is going to drive these powerful winds. in the meantime, tornado watches s
