and jc-penney stock shot up a whopping 25% yesterday, as turnaround efforts.... appear to be working! u-s regulators are probing recall reaction time of general motors after an ignitian issue was linked to 13 deaths. the national highway safety administration wants to know whether gm recalled autos quickly enough after the ignition switch defect was detected. the defect caused ignition switches in more than 1.6 million cars to turn engines off abruptly. gm faces a potential fine of $35 million if it failed to notify the nhtsa within 5 days of the recall. subway recently banned a "shoe rubber" chemical from its breads. now, consumer groups contend that the same chemical is in nearly 500 foods. the chemical is azo-di-carbonamide. it's used as a bleaching agent in some breads, pizzas and pastries. and, is approved by the fda. however consumer groups are pushing for a ban.they contend that it can cause respiratory issues. the "fine print" on nutrition labels could soon become easier to digest. sweeping changes to labels are being introduced by the fda. such as: simpl

struggling retailer jc penney is making a cfo switch. ken hannah, is stepping down as cfo in march with no explanation. he'll be replaced by edward record who has 25 years of experience in finance at various retailers including kohl's. jcp plans to close 33 stores and eliminate 2 thousand jobs this year in a turnaround effort. avon is close to settling an overseas bribery probe. the cosmetics company is under suspicion of paying bribes to expand into china and other countries as u.s. sales slowed. settlement fees could cost up to $132 million. thursday, avon earnings beat estimates, but revenue fell in the fourth quarter. the stock closed down 3 percent to $14.61. tapping into other earnings... pepsi reported $20.1 billion in revenue up 1% from a year go... but just shy of analsyts estimates. the ceo is confident about the year ahead. good year tire reported a strong 4th quarter... as car sales increased sales of tires. and profits are up a burger king with growth coming from asia and north america. the chain says it's new menu items suc
