first to jean. i know you have been there, too, beth, as well. jean, what is the mood there now? we've had this abrupt halt in testimony. what's going on? >> a lot of speculation. i did speak with cheney mason tonight who is the attorney for casey anthony. and he is telling me that all of the speculation that the media is doing, that it is all wrong. that nobody has it right. so there is no plea deal as to what everyone is speculating to. he's very upset because he believes the speculation is made from wild imagination, not based at all, in fact. and he is also saying that the most recent thing around town here is that there is a polygraph that has appeared suddenly that is laughable. he says. >> beth, you're down there, as well. what are you hearing from the folks you're talking to? >> well, apparently it's not any fault of the defense attorneys what is going on right now. they know that at least at this point, the judge is not upset with the defense. he's been upset with the defense many times during this trial. he is not upset right now. i understand we may never know what it

earlier i spoke with jean casarez and dr. drew pinski. jean, you were in the courtroom today.f these recorded conversations between casey and her parents. again, just lie after lie after lie. how is the jury reacting? >> they are so seriously watching their monitors. they're take thing evidence very seriously, anderson. but i think what's interesting is the main lie we heard in the videotape today was casey saying, i know caylee is alive. i know it's just a matter of time we will all be together again. and the defense theory is she drowned in the swimming pool, so casey had to know she was dead, either under the prosecution's theory or the defense theory. >> regardless of who's right in this, the prosecution or the defense, we know that at this point, these are lies and she knew her child was dead at that point. >> exactly. and you see her mother grieving. i mean, uncontrollably grieving and asking casey for leads, where can we look and find her. casey seems to get angry and upset at it. so this is strong evidence for the prosecution. >> dr. drew, when you look at these videos

hunter, let's talk about the duct tape which jean brought up. around the mouth and the nose, to you is that clear evidence of homicide? that that was the cause of death was suffocation? >> no, no. it's not clear evidence. i don't think it was clear evidence to the medical examiner here. she refused to say that it's suffocation because of the position of the duct tape. that's possible. but when you think of the use of duct tape, there are other uses of that. certainly i've come across cases where duct tape is used not necessarily as the mechanism of the homicide, but in order to have the body or what the body is placed in be more easily transported. duct tape is used to bind a body. the fact that you have it up around the mouth certainly makes it somewhat suspicious. and duct tape has been found to be used in homicides of young individuals. i mean it definitely does occur. but another explanation, this body had been at the residence for an extended period of time decomposing. i think it's reasonable even to suggest that duct tape was placed over

i talked with jean kazarez and dr. forensic pathologist and chief medical examiner in panama city, florida. >> jean, as we heard from gary, this woman april whalen in the same jail as casey for a brief period of time had a very similar story to hers about her own son drowning in the family pool, being found by his grandfather. what more do we know about this? do we know if there really was a link between her and casey? >> no. and that's what prosecutors are investigating right now. they said today in court outside of the presence of the jury that a citizen had actually called the orange county sheriff's department to report this, that an april whalen who was an inmate back in 2009 and she was a couple cells down from casey anthony, that in 2007 on christmas day her little son that was close in age to caylee actually drowned in the family swimming pool about 2:20 in the afternoon. the child disappeared for 20 minutes. the whole family was out trying to find her little son. and it was the grandfather that found the littl

on trutv, i spoke to jean casarez. >> jean, do we have indication as to why the defense filed the motiontermine casey's competency and why now? >> i don't think we'll ever know because that's, product of a confidential communication but we can go by the motion that says that with conversations with casey, they believed there was an issue as to her competency. her ability to aid and assist her attorneys. but anderson, the devil's in the details. if you look at number six of the la law for competency, it includes testifying relevantly. if they had a concern whether she was competent to testify and appreciated and understood the potential penalties that she's up against, they may have felt in good faith they had to file this motion. >> so isn't this unusual for competency hearings to be happening this late in a trial? >> extremely unusual. this is something generally dealt with at the beginning of a trial. we hear it all the time. i've dealt with it myself as a prosecutor. this was very unusual. but as jean said, it likely came up during their discussions with her. either friday or saturday
